AVON LAKE - Orilla M. Engelhardt, 92 of Avon Lake, formerly of Bay Village, passed away Sunday, February 17 at her home. She was born August 2, 1920 in Blountsville, AL and came to Bay Village in 1940.
Orilla worked as a bookkeeper for North-Western Insurance and the Millcraft Paper Companies, Cleveland and then as a secretary at Forestview Elementary School, Bay Village.
Orilla was an active member of the Bay Village community, serving as president of the Bay Preschool PTA and the Bay PTA, as well as a PTA Council Vice President. She was also a Brownie Leader and president the Village 100 Club a Bay Village Service Club. Being active in the community for Orilla also meant being politically active working on school levies and working as a neighborhood chairman and organizer. She was a founding member of the Westshore Mother of Twins Club, a group that honored her as Mother of the Year in 1960. Orilla was also active in her church, Bay Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School Teacher, a Circle Chairperson, treasurer of the Women's Association and a Stephen Minister.
In her free time Orilla enjoyed bowling and was an avid bowler into her early 80s. She also enjoyed crafting, taking part in activities at the Bay Senior Friendship Center in craft demos, and making center pieces for senior lunches. She also was part of a group at church that made lap quilts for patients at Fairview Hospital. She also volunteered with the Visiting Nurse Hospice assisting with newsletters and was in charge of coordinating volunteers.
Orillia is survived by daughters Mary Ann Wolfe (Tim) of Cincinnati, Diane McGilvray (Doug) of Lorain and Donna Hawke (Don) of Wooster. Other survivors include grandchildren Michael, Lindsey, Kevin, Craig, Brandon, Cody and Sara and great grandmother of Livian, Cohen and Carlie. She is also survived by three sisters including Evelyn Raabe and three brothers.
Orillia is preceded in death by her husband Fred whom she married August, 20th 1949, parents Virgil and Victoria (nee Collins) Moon, and four siblings.
Friends may call at the Bay Presbyterian Church 25415 Lake Rd., Bay Village from 10am until the Service at 11am, Thursday, February 21. Rev. Tom Madden of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Coe Cemetery, North Olmsted. Arrangements were made by Busch Funeral Home, Avon Lake.
