OTTUMWA — Osborn M. “Ossie” Kent, 92, of 415 McKinley, died May 21, 2008.He was born Sept. 21, 1915 in Lancaster, Mo. to Joe and Edna Tadlock Kent. He married Leota Louise Garrett Oct. 24, 1937 in Gary, Ind. She preceded him in death Feb. 21, 1986.A resident of Ottumwa since 1941, he owned and operated Kent Hatchery for over 60 years. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and the National Poultry Association. He was an avid fisherman and loved to camp.Surviving is a son, O. Kenneth (Viola) Kent of Osage Beach, Mo.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a special friend, Genevieve Comer of Floris.He was preceded in death by a son, Terry J. Kent; and a brother, Emery Kent.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Joe Selix officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Hospice, 312 E. Having grown up next door to Ozzie and Leota, I remember most the warm summer nights spent in the back yard, as well as the numerous fishing trips. Years later, my kids liked to run next door to see him when they went to visit Grandma and Grandpa. Very little slowed Ozzie down and I really thought he would outlive us all. I was very sorry to hear of his passing, but take comfort in the fact that he and Leota will be together again after all of these years. Kenny, Vi, Scott, Chris and all of Ozzie's family, know you are all in our thoughts and prayers as you get through this difficult time. Thank you for sharing such a great guy with the rest of us. He will be greatly missed.

Ossie and his wife were our neighbors for many wonderful years. My brothers and I would shovel their driveway just for fun and he would pay us but we didn't want money we did it just because we liked them. May you rest in peace.
