Oscar Alvin Kopet

O. A., “Al” Kopet, M.D., F.A.A.P., 79, died on Sunday, November 7th at Garden Terrace Nursing Home, Chatham, NJ. Born in New York City, Dr. Kopet was a graduate of Queens College, NY and of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma De Mexico, where he attended medical school. Upon graduation, Dr. Kopet returned to NY to complete his specialty training in Pediatrics. He then moved to New Jersey where he enjoyed a successful private practice, caring for three generations of families, before retiring in 2000. During his professional career, Dr. Kopet was active in medical education at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ and St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. In addition to being a well respected physician, he was an accomplished photographer. He and a group of fellow physicians formed a camera group and traveled together to photograph nature, architecture & people. The walls of his home as well as those in his pediatric office were covered in photographs. Dr. Kopet was fluent in five languages, had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great storyteller. He loved life and his family. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda (Lavitola) Kopet; his daughters Jeri Nardiello and her husband Gerald & Jacquelyn Feller and her husband Ron; his grandchildren Alan & Jarrad Nardiello & Sarah Feller, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Francine Rosenthal and by his sister Selma Dauber. A memorial service will be held in the near future.
