Otis Paul Shoopman, aged 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at his home in Grass Valley, California. Born on March 19, 1943, Otis dedicated over five decades of his career to the B&C True Value Lumber Company in Grass Valley, where he retired after 53 years of commendable service.

Known for his hardworking, generous, caring, and loyal nature, Otis had a remarkable sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He cherished his family deeply and enjoyed a wide circle of friends, thriving in social settings.

Otis was a longtime race car owner and driver at Ernie Pursell Speedway in Grass Valley. He had a deep passion for watching racing and various sports events on TV, including remaining a Faithful SF 49er's fan. His leisure time often saw him at the casino, or playing cards on weekends with friends and family, and always accompanied by his beloved dogs.

Otis is survived by his sons and daughters-in-laws, Reverend Jerry and Desse Gale, William and Kimberly Gale, Robert and Barbara Gale, daughter, Candace Gale and Earl and Trish Shoopman. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death in 2007 by his loving wife of 46 years, Jeannine Williams Gale Shoopman, and his siblings: Floyd, Eunice, Darrell, Ruby, Junior and Imogene Shoopman.

Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Noon at The Hooper & Weaver Mortuary located at 459 Hollow Way in Nevada City, California. The Memorial Services will be immediately followed by a Celebration of Life gathering at the LOVE Building in Condon Park, 660 Minnie Street in Grass Valley, California.

Otis, was a good friend. When I met him 45 years ago and every time sense I was glad to see him. He did not change the whole time. He loved his family and he loved his wife. He loves his dogs and he loved Nevada county. The kind of guy that was enjoyable to talk to and when you were done, he shook your hand with authority and as you walked away, he gave you a slap on the back just to let you know he had your back rest in peace Shoop. Earl , Trish and family my thoughts and prayers are with you, Curt M

A really good guy. Miss him at B&C. I always enjoyed talking about the car races at the fairgrounds.

Otis, the real deal, genuine great friendly all around guy! Although we were mostly crossing paths on common ground, lumber yard, basketball court, and talking racing and watching him race at the fairgrounds, Otis was sincere and a make ya feel good person! Anyway, condolences to the family and friends, his presence and spirit will be missed, ~ Dennis Barry

We have lost a legend. Otis was one of the nicest guys I had the pleasure of knowing. He always knew you when you would run into him whether it was at B and C or the grocery store and he would always make time to talk to you. He was a good man and I'm going to miss him. My condolences to his family. RIP my friend.
