Otto Deutsch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 19 to Feb. 21, 2006.
DEUTSCH _ Otto Henry Otto Deutsch passed away peacefully on February 16, 2006 at the age of 83. Otto was born in Czechoslovakia and until the age of fourteen lived with his family in Brno. His father's death and threat of war caused his mother Augusta to seek a new country to raise her sons, Karl and Otto. They immigrated to Edmonton, and shortly after to a farm at Alberta Beach west of Edmonton. Although his grandparents had farmed in the old country, this was a new life for everyone. Otto worked hard putting himself through High School by correspondence. He went on to the University of Alberta where he received his B.Sc. in Chemistry. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Lydia Zimmerman. Otto then got his B.Ed. and began his teaching career in Ardley east of Red Deer and then in Hay Lakes. In 1954 he started at Mount Royal College as an Instructor in Chemistry, Math, Physics and Engineering where he stayed for thirty-four years. He received his Masters Degree (M.Ed.) from the University of Calgary in 1973. Otto and Lydia had two children, Allan (Judey) and Nora (Rick) and two grandsons, Kelsey and Nolan. His family, music, travel and the mountains were the joys of his life. Otto was predeceased by his father Alexander in 1935, his mother Augusta in 1967, his brother Karl in 1997 and his beloved wife Lydia in 1999. Life was never the same for him without his wife. This gentle, learned man missed her terribly and was ready to travel again to be together. Music and family love filled his soul and without him our family song is incomplete. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2006, location and time to be announced. HERITAGE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES "Heritage Funeral Home" Telephone: 299-0100.

As my teacher at Hay Lakes High (1951-52), your father exhibited his traits of kindness and understanding to a student who was definitely not adept in science or math. I appreciated and respected him, as did my younger sister, Margaret. We regret your personal loss.
