Otto M. Dittmann (1931-2014)

Otto M. Dittmann died peacefully at his home in Novato, California, Sunday, April 27th, 2014. He was 82.

Born and raised in the beautiful Bavarian city of Weiden, in Der Oberpfalz, he immigrated to the United States in 1951. Drafted into the US Army in 1951, he served the United State of America in Korea for two years. Upon his honorable discharge, he earned an Associate degree in Engineering from San Mateo Community College and began a 40 year career with the Schlage Lock Company of San Francisco.

Married in 1956 to his wife of 57 years, Anita, the two raised sons, Michael Dittmann of Novato, California and Richard Dittmann of American Falls, Idaho.

Otto was a very successful musician. He played in many bands and enjoyed the corresponding fellowship of a career that spanned more than 60 years. A passionate and gifted musician, he could play just about any instrument, but was mainly known for his tenor saxophone.

His greatest joy was his grandchildren; Christopher and Leslie. He rarely missed their sporting events including practices. He was their biggest fan. They brought a great happiness and pride to his life.

Otto was active in his community volunteering for many years with the Novato Police Department. He also loved his "job" and the wonderful folks at Sonnen BMW in San Rafael for whom he drove a courtesy van.

Otto is Survived by his wife of 57 years, Anita, his brothers Karl and Joseph, sons Michael (Debbie) and Richard (Melissa), grandchildren Christopher and Leslie, and step grandchildren Billy and Stacey.

A celebration in honor of Otto Michael Dittmann will be held Sunday, June 29th from noon to 5pm at the Wild Horse Valley Clubhouse located at 110 Wild Horse Valley Drive, Novato, Ca. 94947.
