Otto Mayer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 2 to Sep. 6, 2021.
Otto T. Mayer, 90, of Ellington, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Otto was born April 27, 1931, to the late Walter and Margaret Mayer. He was the loving husband to the late Dorothy Mayer for 45 years. Otto was a skilled toolmaker and owned his own shop before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with and taking care of his family, and especially enjoyed his weekly trips to the casino with Dorothy. He will be remembered for his beautiful smile, quick wit and stubbornness!

Otto is survived by his loving stepdaughters, Debbie (Dennis) Bassett of Stafford and Donna (Peter) McKiernan of Vernon; his children, Steve (Cookie) Mayer of Pelham, Alabama and Sue (Adron) Thomas of Windsor; grandchildren, Lindsay and Carey Thomas, Dennis Bassett, and Ryan and Travis McKiernan; and great-granddaughter Bria Coran. Besides his loving wife Dorothy, Otto was predeceased by sons Tom and John Mayer; grandchildren Brittany Bassett and Justin Johnstone; and siblings Anton, Walter and Gustave Mayer and Margaret Brown.

The family thanks his caregiver Aggie for the care and compassion given to Otto during these final months.

Memorial donations in Otto's memory may be made to Feral Cats of East Windsor, P.O. Box 198, East Windsor, CT 06088, or the Connecticut Humane Society.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, between noon and 2 p.m., with a Funeral Home Service at 2 p.m., at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville. Burial will be private.
