Otto Harry REINHARDT

OTTO HARRY REINHARDT May 2, 1938 - April 15, 2023 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our sweet Dad and Grandpa, Harry, on April 15, 2023 while surrounded by his loving daughters. He was predeceased by his wonderful wife of 55 years, Diane (Newton); and his siblings, Gerta Kellogg, Hildegard Sandstrom and Rudolph Reinhardt. He also leaves behind his children, Sandy (Peter Bovey), Mark, and Kelly (Michael LeBlanc); as well as seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Born to German immigrants, Mary and Otto Reinhardt, in Ruthven, ON; Harry was raised on a farm where he tended the crops and the animals, and also worked in the family roofing and tinning businesses. As a young man, he attended high school at Kingsway College in Oshawa, ON, and then to Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI, graduating with a BSc. After University, Harry was proud to have joined Ortho Pharmaceuticals (J&J), working in sales in Winnipeg for a few years in the 1960s. He and his young family were moved back to Toronto in 1967, settling in the west end where he remained for the rest of his life. Our Dad had a beautiful voice, was an accomplished pianist, a Varsity swimmer, and a rock and mineral enthusiast. It was often said that no party really got started until Harry arrived on the scene! Unfortunately, when Harry was just 33 years old he was stricken with viral encephalitis and hospitalized for 6 months. He was left paralyzed on his right side and his speech was forever affected. This affliction did not affect his ability to help to raise his children, get out and about, garden and watch the world go by from his front porch on Van Dusen Blvd. in Etobicoke. Harry was a great listener and was always at the ready with calm, sage advice. His experience and challenges gave him a greater insight than most, and he often could be heard saying 'What will be will be' or 'Day by day' when asked his thoughts on a subject. He remained a huge Blue Jays fan right to the end, and nobody loved a cold beer more than he did! Dad spent his final years at Chartwell Scarlett Heights and was surrounded by caring people who helped make his last few years much easier for him, especially dear Jadwiga, who helped with his care for over 20 years. He always saw the best in everyone and everyone who came into contact with him came away better for the experience. We will miss our gentle and loving Dad and Grandpa every minute of every day. A private family interment to take place in Leamington, Ontario at a later date.
