Otwell Asa Layton Sr.

Ace Layton passed peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at his son's home in Houston, at age 87. Ace was a top aeronautics structural design engineer, and worked on many iconic aircraft here locally and across the nation. Ace Layton was born in Fort Worth in 1929, and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force directly out of Arlington Heights High School, where he met his future wife, Peggy Sue Shelton. He later worked at Convair, General Dynamics, LTV, and Bell, eventually becoming a top aeronautics structural design engineer. Iconic aircraft projects include the F-111, C5 Galaxy, Boeing 747, and B-2 Bomber. He'll be greatly missed, but warmly remembered for his quick wit, beaming smile, and love of adventure, travel and music.
