Pamela Ortlieb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 5 to Feb. 7, 2015.
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Revelation 21:4. Pamela Dixon Ortlieb, wife, mother, and interior designer, passed away February 3, 2015 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born in Clinton, on July 29th, 1951 to parents, Charles T. and Elaine Dixon. She grew up in Central on a wooded lane where she played "house". There were dense woods beside her house and a mound of Earth covered with wonderful green moss that she claimed as her very own loden velvet sofa. It became a focus of an imaginary living room. She never stopped playing house and never lost her passion for simple elegance in the home. Her God given talents were in the arts. Pam's passion for decorating and her artistic talents led her to her businesses, Aryanne's Lace and Adelyn's Antiques. She graduated from Central High School and attended LSU. Pam was very passionate and involved with Christian Life Fellowship Church where she cherished the opportunity to participate in a Mission trip to Russia in 2002. Pam is survived by her loving husband of 32yrs, Rene Ortlieb . They shared the most precious times together and went through everything in life that was thrown at them, but there could have been no one else but Pam for Rene. No one could replace the love that they shared with one another. Pam is survived by; husband Rene, daughters Aryanne and Adelyn, granddaughters, Avalee and April Kay; parents, Charles T. and Eva Elaine Van Norman; brothers, Kevin and Kyle Dixon. Preceded in death by her brother Keith Dixon. Pallbearers will be: Gary Bonanno, Bart Leader, Eddie Bertoniere, Daryl Hunt, Kevin Dixon, Kyle Dixon and Charles T. Dixon. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, Louisiana Friday, February 6, 2015 5:00pm-9:00pm. Visitation will resume, Saturday, February 7, 2015, 10:00am until service time at noon. Burial will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Aryanne, I only met your mother briefly, she was sick then but never showed it . I can imagine how strong she was by the way you and your sister carried yourselves during your young lives. Aryanne, I hope you find peace and love that you deserve. You three women are the most beautiful red heads I've ever seen. I am sorry this is so late , and maybe too long for that matter, but I have tried everything I could think of to find you and make contact. I am truly sorry for you all . I hope to hear from you . Love joe. [email protected]

I just found out tonight about Pam and with great sadness called her mother to express my sorrow. Rene (I went to BRJH with you) and girls, I would love to write you a letter with pictures about our friendship and our lives at Central and Zoar. We were very close friends, and Pam was in our wedding. I loved her so much and got re-acquainted when your girls were in school. They were at a game at PBS (where I taught music, Derrell was Superintendent, and my boys played ball)and we had such a long talk. She overflowed with love for you and your girls. I have kept up with her illness because our mothers were friends. She was truly everything beautiful that everyone has said about her and she loved you all so much. I love you Pam and will never forget you. I can hear your sweet voice now and see your dimples as you laugh. I know your beauty still shines through your beautiful girls. May God bless your family. You are in heaven with my mom who loved you like a daughter.

Tribute to Pamela
written by Rene' Ortlieb

I remember like it was yesterday. On her 25th birthday, I stopped by to see her at a law firm where she was working. The outside window acted as a prism on the sunlight and its glow fell upon her face and I remember thinking to myself this truly must be the most beautiful creature on the face of this earth. But it was far more than that with her. She was everything a woman should be. It was overpowering. I loved everything about her. The road wasn't easy for us. We loved, we laughed, we fought and we cried. But the force was too great. There could be no one else but her for me. Even now that she is gone, she inhabits my very soul.

How did it all start?

I first met her in 1974. It was a chance meeting that would change the course of my life. We dated for a few months. But I had other commitments and was honest with her. I then attempted to maintain a friendship with her. My other commitments were very tumultuous but in addition I had another problem. Every night in that quiet time between dreaming and wake, I found that I would think about Pam, How perfect she was in every way. This went on for years.

Then something life changing occurred. My father died. This was the end of my world. I missed the relationship that my father and I had.

Soon thereafter, I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in a cold sweat. What was the nightmare? I dreamt that I let things go too far and that I had lost Pam forever. I realized that the reason I was born was to be at her side. This was definitely the night that would change the course of my life. I reasoned that if my subconscious feelings about her was so strong that I felt compelled to do something about it. This was 1981 and I understood that to get her back now would require me to move heaven and earth. So I did not go back to sleep because I wanted to get an early start.

And the rest is the history of our lives together.

Lee Picard would later write on a recent Facebook post:

I was very sorry to hear about Pam, but her suffering is over and she is with our Lord.
A man that truly loves a woman....
Walks beside her & holds her hand when she is strong.
Stands behind her when she needs a push.
Wraps his arms around her when she wants to be protected,
And carries her when she has fallen....
For Pam you have been
"that Man"

And to Lee I would respond:

When a man truly loves a woman, he would not think of doing it any other way. I only wish I could relive my life with her, I think I could do it better this time.

It was my honor to have known Pam from the beginning of our school days together at Central. For the past few months I have had her in my thoughts and wondered about her and where she was and what kind of like she had. The things we use to talk about as girls. I had come to Baton Rouge to visit with my Mother and was very surprised to see her picture in the obituary columns. My condolences go out to her family and friends as I know she will be greatly missed.

Renee....
What through the radiance which was once so bright be now forever taken from my sight! Though nothing can bring back the hour of spendeor in the grass, glory in the flower. We will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind. Wm. Wordsworth

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Others stay awhile and embrace our silent dreams leaving footprints on our hearts and we are never ever the same.

Renee I never had the pleasure, but know she was your world.

Rene', Your wife was an incredibly talented interior designer...I remember the Quota Club tour of homes and always looked forward to seeing Pam's creations; beautiful, elegant and a statement of her perfectionism. Condolences to you and your family...in spite of the bad times, the good times were a fairy tale story that ended much too soon. Sad memories will eventually leave for good and the beautiful memories will be forever etched in your heart and soul...Blessings and prayers, my friend.
