KERNERSVILLE — Pat Cummings West, 77, died peacefully, with her family by her side, Friday, October 5, 2007, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, October 8, at Kernersville Moravian Church with Rev. Don Winters officiating.
She was born in Kernersville on March 11, 1930, to the late Dorothy Elizabeth Mayes and John Martin Cummings. She was a graduate of Kernersville High School and St. Leo's Hospital of Nursing in Greensboro, N.C. She spent most of her time in the Medical field of Pediatrics. Under Kiki Xammara at Wake Forest University she was a statistician and worked patient check-in at reservation. She also worked in space control with the former Piedmont Airlines. Once she retired she opened a small daycare and was fondly called "Mommie Pat" by the many children in the Kernersville area.
Pat was a lifelong member of Kernersville Moravian Church, where she played in the band, sang in the choir, and along with her husband was a Youth Leader. She was a retired member of the Joseph Kerner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of the Red Hatters.
Pat went blind in 1964 for a time of nearly two years. With assistance and loving care from Charlie, the grace of God, and professional staff of Duke Medical Hospital her sight was restored. Thank you, Charlie, for your kind and loving care during her time of darkness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy E. Foster; a brother, John E. Cummings; and a beloved cousin, Mrs. Ted Kerner.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Charles L. West of the home; daughters, Sydney Wootten Cox and her husband, Robert of Collierville, Tennessee, and Robyn Wootten Furr of Clemmons; son, John Martin Wootten and his wife, Paula of Walnut Cove; granddaughters, Elizabeth Cox Welborn and her husband, Ron of Ft. Worth, Texas, Taylor Marie Wootten of Walnut Cove, Abigail Martin Gay of Clemmons; grandsons, Robert Casey Sisk of Kernersville, John Simon Cox of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Charles Kaleb Mathews and his wife, Allison of Winston-Salem; two great granddaughters, Ella Elizabeth Welborn and Carlyle Bess Welborn, both of Ft. Worth, Texas; niece, Linda Foster Waters of Clemmons; nephew, Robert Foster of Cape Canaveral, Fla.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until time for the service in the sanctuary in the fellowship hall of the church .
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice, or to the Kernersville Moravian Church.
A special thanks goes out to the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Remy Plunkett, Dr. Vicki Stovall, the High Point Kidney Center, and the congregation of Kernersville Moravian Church, for all the kindness shown the family during this time.

Charlie, We were so sorry to hear about Pat. We just read about it in the Tuesday news. She was the best babysitter anyone could ever ask for. Jaime really loved her.
