Some of my favorite memories are with my grandmother, who my sister and I called GP, short for Grandma Pat-a name we made up when we were kids. One of the earliest memories I have is making pancakes together in the kitchen at Beaver Meadow. We would drag a chair over to the counter and "help" mix up the batter. They were easily the best pancakes I´ve ever had.
GP was always around, even though she and Pop lived in New York for most of our childhood. They made the drive to Virginia often, and she would spend time with us during the winter months. As I got older, we spent even more time together, especially one summer when we took care of my cousins Liam and Chloe. We saw each other almost every day and made the best memories that summer.
GP had a talent for baking: cookies, pies-pretty much anything. She could do it all, and do it well. Baking with her was something we always did, and it became one of those simple routines that meant a lot without trying to be anything special.
GP was steady, present, and always made time for the people around her, and I´m glad I got to grow up with that.
