Patricia Dethloff

Patricia Pearl "Pat" Dethloff, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, in Brighton, Michigan.

Beloved daughter of Walter Heikes Nisley and Willie Ann (Hancock) Nisley

Born on June 3, 1931, in Northville, Michigan, Patricia graduated from Plymouth High School in 1947. She later earned her degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1968, launching a meaningful career in early childhood education. For 21 years, she taught kindergarten at Adams School and the Perry Child Development Center in Ypsilanti. After relocating to Gladwin, she continued to inspire young learners as a substitute teacher at Gladwin Elementary for another ten years.

Patricia was a lifelong advocate for education. She was a proud member of the Michigan Education Association (MEA), the National Education Association (NEA), and the Michigan Retired School Personnel organization. Her dedication left a lasting impression on countless students and colleagues.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Elwood "Al" Dethloff of Brighton, Michigan; her children: Kenneth Dethloff of Ocala, Florida; Marcia (John) Gibbins of Gladwin, Michigan; Steven (Lori) Dethloff of Massachusetts; and James (Cyndi) Dethloff of Pinckney, Michigan; as well as numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Janet (Dethloff) Green; grandson Zachary Green; and sister Barbara (Nisley) Arnold.

Patricia's faith was an important part of her life. She was formerly a member of the Presbyterian Church in Ypsilanti and later joined the Presbyterian Church in Beaverton after moving north.

Cremation has taken place. Due to distance separating family and friends, no services are planned.

Patricia will be remembered for her warmth, devotion to family and education, and spirited nature. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those whose lives she touched.
