Patricia Gaudet Obituary

Published by The New Orleans Advocate from Aug. 2 to Aug. 3, 2015.
Patricia Kathryn Gaudet passed away in Asheville, NC on July 31, 2015. She was born January 6, 1945 in Colorado but grew up in New Orleans. She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin Joseph Gaudet (aka Sweet Eyes) and Lorraine "Pat" Livoda Gaudet (aka Bullet). Pat enjoyed giving family and friends nicknames and rarely referred to them except by these names. Pat earned a BA from Louisiana State University and a Masters in Russian studies from Tulane University. She was fluent in Spanish and Russian. She taught school for the Orleans Parish School District for several years. Pat had an endearingly quirky sense of humor. She peppered her conversation with French and faux French words to highlight her French roots. Louis XIV, the Sun King, and Napoleon were her favorite historical characters. Pat and her pup, Jean-Louis, survived Hurricane Katrina's storm surge in Gulfport, MS, and were nearly drowned, narrowly escaping to the upper floors of her apartment building. She braved living in a storm damaged apartment open to the elements for six weeks without electricity and running water. She returned to New Orleans for several years and then relocated to Asheville, NC where she found contentment and financial security. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her Yorkie Sasha. She is survived by a brother and sister, Edwin Gaudet and Desiree Gaudet. She is also survived by her beloved Yorkshire terrier Jean-Louis (aka Sucre Dumplin'), the "perfect Yorkie," who will return to her friend Leanne (aka Mauvais) in New Orleans.

I was so hoping to get together with Pat Gaudet, Mary Lynn Brown Langston, Rosemary Schafidi for our 50 year reunion when I was contacted by Naomi Hess. Sadly that never happened as Mary Lynn died shortly before the reunion and now Pat. I will always remember all the dances we went to at Sacred Heart, St. Anthony and on the President as these were some of the most wonderful times of our life. Sorry to have lost touch for the last 30 years. Pat your were the most intelligent, sweetest, and wildest fun loving person I have ever known. Wish we could have reunited and shared more of our life experiences. Peace be with you. Love, Linda Damare Christofi

Pat, It was so pleasant to know you in John McDonogh. You were so intelligent, but very modest. You also were very funny and "bubbly". I am honored to have known you and especially to have had your friendship.

I knew Pat well in high school. I also attended Tulane University. She was one of the most loving, generous, enthusiastic, and witty people I have ever known. So was always so cheerful that one could not stay depressed for long around her. When I read near-death accounts about unconditional love, Pat always springs to mind. The world has lost a truly exceptional spirit.

I went to high school with Pat. She was one of the most beautiful and loving people I've ever known. Always smiling and laughing, and making others laugh. Earth is losing a very special person, but heaven is gaining a most beautiful angel.

Pat's passing makes the world a lot less bright. I hope that she will rest peacefully knowing that we will take the best of care of her precious Yorkie Jean-Louis.

I knew Pat through my sister. She was a quintessential New Orleanian, smart, and one-of-a-kind. She could always make me laugh. She was resilient at overcoming a challenging disability, so much so that she seemed completely unaware of her uniqueness.
