Patricia Hamilton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2015.
Patricia Ann Hamilton, 87, of Springfield, formerly of the Chatham area, passed away Thursday, July 02, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her family. Patricia was born January 14, 1928 at her home near Bradford, IL, to Robert Vernon "Buck" and Louise Marie McDaniel Camey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Everett Eugene Hamilton, sister, Betty Dalton and brothers, Robert, David and Michael Camey.

Patricia was a homemaker, but through the years worked as a secretary at Marengo Methodist Church and State Farm Insurance in Bloomington; she also served many customers at Mel-O-Cream Donuts. Mrs. Hamilton was a hard working woman dedicated to her extended family…brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and volunteer at Chatham Area Library District. As a simple and devoted woman, she gave of herself and her skills as a seamstress, making many prom dresses, wedding dresses, and costumes for high school plays, most notably Glenwood High School's production of Oklahoma. Pat was also known for her delicious brown bag apple pie with raisins and mincemeat pie (heavy on the rum!).

She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Shelley (Ken) Hoffman of Chatham; Teresa "Teri" (Mark) Pointer of Springfield; Allison (Terry) Moore of Springfield; grandchildren, Zachary (Hanna) Hoffman of Chatham, Aimee (Benji) Sutton of Springfield, Trevor Moore (Amanda Betts) of Chicago, Miranda Moore (Nathan Woodard) of Amarillo, TX; great grandchildren, Nicholas Hoffman, Alicia Hoffman, Joseph Sutton, and Lucia Moore; brother, Jim (Pat) Camey of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; sister, Mary Hayes of Morton, IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Visitation and Funeral: Her family will greet friends from 4pm until time of the service at 6pm, Monday, July 6, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Paula Staab Polk will be the funeral celebrant.

She will be laid to rest during a private family committal at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chatham Area Library District, 600 East Spruce Street, Chatham, 62629.

I loved Aunt Pat! She was always kind to me. She started a tradition with me, story telling. She told my first scary story in Aunt Mary's kitchen about the little abandoned shack behind her house. My dad, her brother Mike took us 6 kids in a station wagon down to Springfield to her house on the lake, several times during the summer. Those are very found and happy memories. I miss her and my dads family. My deepest condolences for your loss.

Dear Shelly,Teresa, Allison & families

I am so very sorry for your loss. "Aunt" Pat was such an incredible person. I have such fond memories of visiting your family in Marengo when we were kids. Your mom made me feel so special. She did so much with us. It was always crazy fun . . . ice skating, singing Christmas carols, playing games. I remember when she would wash my hair and put vinegar in it for "shine." She was a pistol and so full of life. And that infectious laugh!! The lives she touched, she made better. I also want to add that she and your dad were so kind to us when we were in Springfield in 1969-70. I realize now as an adult how very generous they were and I am eternally grateful. She always made me feel special. When she visited me in Long Beach after the birth of my son, Eric, I was so deeply touched by her kind heart. She will always be in mine.

Dear Shelly Teresa and Allison,

Aunt Pat was a wonderful person. At family get togethers her German potato salad was a hit and my dad loved it. When I was married, Aunt Pat gave us a wonderful salad bowl that my oldest daughter loves for me to use. I remember being with all of you during Illinois State Fair time and what fun it was. When we visited our cousin Jim Hamilton in Wyoming, his wife Tina called Jim "Ham". I told her that the only other person who used that was Aunt Pat for Uncle Everett. Although we will not make it back for the service, you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers.
