Patricia HERTZ Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 2, 2002.
HERTZ, Patricia Theresa (nee Wapple) 1934 - 2002 With great sadness we announce that on November 1, 2002 Pat passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with brain cancer at the age of 67. Pat was so full of kindness that she could not help but share it with others. She loved spending time with family and friends in both her Edmonton and Maui homes. Her gentleness combined with a strength of spirit touched many lives. Pat will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 43 years, Nick; sons, Doug (Laura), Bruce (Lisa), Richard and daughter, Joan (Barry) Benkendorf. She will be deeply missed by her great joy, grandchildren, Katrina, Zachary, Erika, Nicholas, Parker, Eric and Kate. Her brothers and sisters, Melvin, Patrick, Darlene, Arnold, John, Sharon and extended Hertz and Wapple families, will also miss her. She was predeceased by her brother, Fred. Born in The Pas, Manitoba, Pat grew up outside of Kindersley and studied nursing at St. Paul's Hospital, Saskatoon. She moved to teach nursing at the Edmonton General in the late 50's and remained active as a nurse at the Grey Nuns Hospital until her retirement. She was a strong supporter of a variety of charities, always thinking of others and giving of herself, and will be remembered for great contributions and work with Birthright and the Marian Centre among others. All who knew Pat were touched by her quiet gentleness and caring - she has left many cherished memories. Prayers will be at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 3, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 4, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Annuciation Church (9420 - 163 Street). Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Petruk, Dr. Roa, Dr. Strilchuk, Dr. Ranieri and Dr. Fulton along with their staff at the University of Alberta Hospital, Cross Cancer Clinic and Palliative Care Edmonton General Hospital for their positive and concerned care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat's name to The University Hospital Foundation - Dr. Ken Petruk, Brain Cancer Research (1H1 91 WMC 8840 - 112 Street, Edmonton T6G 2B7) or Birthright Edmonton (#108 11520 - 100 Avenue, Edmonton T5K 0J7).
