Patricia Keenan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 16, 2024.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an angel, Patricia Anne (Mills) Keenan aged 70. Patty passed at the Gosnell House on May 18, 2024 after an unexpected and brief illness with her youngest brother and lifelong friend Steven by her side. Patty was born in Boston, Massachusetts (Parents: John J Mills SR predeceased WWII Veteran/POW and Mary Martin). Her younger years were spent in Brockton, Mass. She received her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree in 1973 from Southeastern Regional Technical College. In 1976 at one of her nursing positions, she met her best friend to be for life Dorine Boyd. This friendship lasted for 48 years. In 1985 she received her Paralegal Certificate from Stonehill College. Patty is proud to say that she had two careers: one in direct patient nursing care and one as a medical paralegal. She excelled in both of these careers and was awarded numerous Excellence in Nursing Awards throughout her career. She also became a Justice of the Peace officiating over many family and friend's marriages. In 1985 she moved to Maine and fell in love with the state. This would become her permanent home. There she met the love of her life David P. Keenan (predeceased 2021) and they spent twenty-eight years together. Patty is survived by her four stepchildren: Kelly, Kevin, and Shawn Keenan and Sarah Eluk and five grandchildren: Grace, Shawn, Makayla, David, and Ryan which she was known as Yaya to. She was known to let the grand-babies sit on the countertops and eat unlimited cookies when the parents weren't looking and at Christmas time there were yearly matching holiday pajamas for them.

Patty loved to travel and had the unique opportunity to meet Mother Theresa. She made trips to Ireland, to India, and to England and Italy. Her truest love above everything was the Boston Red Sox. Her home is full of Red Sox paraphernalia. Because of her profound love which David also shared, he purchased for her a brick for the wall during the 100th Anniversary Fenway Park Etched in History Brick Program. It states for all to see: Manny's BFF Go Red Sox Patty Keenan. After David's passing Patty would still watch the games and would be texting during it with her Uncle Jimmy and her nephews Chris and Tyler. On the day of her passing, Patty as best she could, Steve and Mary Jane sang "Sweet Caroline". She and her sister Linda loved the Kentucky Derby and every year along with their husbands David and Dick, they would celebrate with the glamorous hats, food and of course some horse betting. She will be remembered for always being the life of the party, being a good friend, her quick wit, and her loving spirit for everyone. She never missed a chance to send a beautiful card and within it was always confetti that would always go all over our floors. At Christmas time, there would always be played and sung as loud as could be O' Holy Night. Patty will be deeply missed.

Patty is survived by her loving brother, Steven and his wife Mary Jane and their two children Tyler and Natasha, Carol Mills (brother John J Mills JR predeceased) and their children Christopher and Elizabeth and Richard Millington (sister Linda predeceased), her brother Charles Mills and family and her sister Joanne Neavoll and family. There are also many aunts and uncles, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

There will be no services at Patty's request. To share memories of Patty or to leave the family an online condolence, please visit http://www.athutchins.com. In lieu of flowers, as with her husband David, contributions may be made to the Maine Veteran's Home for their activity fund: https://mainevets.org/make-a-gift/ in memory of Patty Keenan for the Scarborough location.
