Dr. Patricia C. McCollam, 71, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in Fountain Valley, California. She was born October 2, 1936 to Glenn Borman, Sr. and Eleanor (Hartmann) Borman. She married Donald Joseph McCollam on July 14, 1956 at St. Marys Church, Alton. She graduated in 1954 from Marquette High School. After her children were raised, she continued her education on the west coast where her husband had been transferred by Shell Oil Company. Dr. McCollam had an active life, filled with musical accomplishments. From February 1992 until her retirement in June 2007, she was the Music Ministry Director at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Huntington Beach, CA. From 1981 until her move to St. Bonaventure, she was the Music Ministries Director of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Santa Ana, CA. Dr. McCollam was also a lecturer for Mount St. Marys College Graduate Religious Studies Program; workshop presenter and coordinator for various national and regional conventions of the National Pastoral Musicians (NPM); co-author of The Volunteer Choir with Frank Brownstead, published by the Pastoral Press in 1987; instructor for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Musician Certification Program; music coordinator for the Diocese of Orange RCIA Institute; coordinator of choirs and liturgical celebrations for the visit of Pope John Paul II to Los Angeles in 1987; and music director for several priestly ordinations in the Diocese of Orange, including the installation of Bishop Norman McFarland in 1987. She was also NPMs National Musician of the Year in 2000. With all of her musical accomplishments, Pat was first and foremost a wife, mother and grandmother. She particularly relished being a grandmother and was very active in the lives of her six grandchildren. She attended countless sporting events, dance recitals, school plays, Christmas and spring school musicals, and birthday parties. She loved to have the grandchildren at her home for movie nights and sleepovers. Pat was a beloved part of her familys lives and she will be missed tremendously. Pat is survived by her husband Don, three sons and two daughters, Joe and Monique McCollam of San Pedro, CA, Tricia and Doug Marquette of Huntington Beach, CA, Chris of Costa Mesa, CA. Jeff and Stephanie of Huntington Beach, Ca, and Dr. Pam McCollam of Orem, Utah; six grandchildren Jordan, Michael, and Christina Marquette, Caitlin, Abby and Christian McCollam, a brother, Glen (Pete) and Jane Borman, two sisters, Carol and Guy Nasello, Sue Nagy and her partner, Steve Leahy, all of Alton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
