PATRICIA SHANLEY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2016.
GLEN ELLYN - Patricia "Pat" Shanley (nee Panas), a resident of Glen Ellyn, IL for over 50 years, passed into eternal life on Friday, May 20, 2016 in her home at Villa St. Benedict in Lisle, IL. Pat was born on July 11, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Joseph and Agnes (nee Gajewski) Panas. Loving wife of Thomas J. Shanley for 58 years: devoted mother of Mary Ellen (Mike) Whelan, Dr. Thomas P (Maureen Garrity) Shanley, Christopher J. (Sarita Singh) Shanley and Timothy J. (Meg White) Shanley; proud grandmother of Dr. Patrick, Timothy, Mary Kate and Christopher Whelan; Lauren, Molly, Ashleigh and Matthew Shanley; Jordan Shanley; and Ryan, Quinn, Peter and Charlie Shanley; beloved sister of Joan (Fred) Wozniak and Joseph (Margaret) Panas; caring aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Pat was an active parishioner of St. James the Apostle Church and School in Glen Ellyn. Over the years she taught art, worked on the church's Art & Environment Committee, and led Sunday Mass congregations as a cantor, as well as sang in the Liturgical and Resurrection Choirs. In 2012, she was named CCW "Woman of the Year." Throughout her life she was a talented artist, who also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling the world. An avid tennis player for over 30 years, she was a diehard fan of the Cubs, the Bulls, the Fighting Irish and the Redwings of Benet Academy. Her biggest cheers though were for her children's and grandchildren's teams, as there was nothing more important to her than spending time with her family. The family wishes to thank the staff of Villa St. Benedict, Home and Hearth, and Loyola Hospice for their support and loving care given to their wife and mother. Visitation Monday, May 23, 2016, 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Services will begin Tuesday, May 24, 9:00 AM from the funeral home and will proceed to a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, 480 S. Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Future Inurnment Assumption Cemetery, Wheaton, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 8430 W.
