Patrick Mahoney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2025.
Patrick Murray Mahoney, age 75, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, in Sun City West, Arizona.

Born on June 5, 1949, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Pat's life was marked by a spirit of curiosity, resilience, and kindness. He began his professional journey by completing the apprenticeship program at Ford Motor Company in Windsor. Never one to shy away from new challenges or opportunities for growth, Pat later returned to school to earn his teaching certificate. He went on to teach for 15 years in Canada, touching the lives of many students with his dedication and care.

In pursuit of new experiences and adventures, Pat eventually moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked for Dreyers. His willingness to embrace change and explore new paths was a defining trait throughout his life.

Pat shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Sandy. They were married on December 15, 1972-a partnership built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together they raised two children: Kelly Mahoney Goetz (Jim) and Stephen Mahoney. Pat was a devoted father who took great pride in his family.

He was affectionately known as "Grumpy" to his cherished grandchildren Charlie Goetz and James Goetz. His warmth extended beyond immediate family-he was a loving brother to Greg Mahoney (Dorothy), Mary Jo "Dody" Dowie (Jim, deceased), and Maureen Holland (Dave). Pat also held a special place in the lives of his nieces and nephews: Jim Dowie (Sarah), Andrew Dowie (Mary), Chris Holland, Erica Bauer (Steve), Jen Neeb (Dave), Steve Holland (Janina), Stuart Mahoney (Jen), and Matthew Mahoney (Brittany). His legacy continues through his great-nieces and nephews: Marshall, Bryce, Jaclyn, Jonathon, Ryan, Carter, Monty, Benjamin, Oliver, and Matilda.

Pat had a great sense of adventure that found expression in his love of travel. Whether exploring new places or capturing moments through the lens of his camera as part of the Photography Club in Sun City West, he embraced life with enthusiasm. A true music lover with an eclectic taste spanning genres and generations, Pat found joy in sharing songs with friends old and new.

Known for his gentle soul and quick wit, Pat brought lightness wherever he went. His kindness left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know him.

In accordance with his wishes for simplicity and peace, Pat will be cremated privately.

May Patrick's memory bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to inspire kindness and courage in the face of life's many journeys.

As a member of our Sun City West group of friends, Pat will be greatly missed. Pat could always be counted on to join in the fun, whether it be a progressive dinner, a wine tasting, or a kayak float down the Verde river. I will especially miss shooting pool with Pat. My Tuesday and Thursday mornings won't be the same without joining Pat in a game of pool. Rack 'em up Pat. I'll join you in another game of 9 ball, someday.

Jerry & Beth felt so fortunate to have crossed paths with Pat & Sandy and they showed us the adventure of European travel. We were so lucky to experience this adventure with such experienced sojourners... something we will never forget.
Pat was truly a gentle soul who embraced life to the fullest and I feel no one was a stranger to him for long.
Pat may you ride on eagle's wings and rest in peace for eternity
