I have put this off for a long time because of guilt. Paul was a hell of a friend and changed my life. He taught me some things about courage. I was a new policeman when I met him and we instantly hit it off. I was 2 years older than he was and our birthdays were only 4 days apart. Throughout my 20s we were close and he was a great friend. I helped him move into his apartment near the North Substation and visited him often when he worked as central service agent. I lost touch with him when we got into our 30s, aside from the occasional phone call. It was during this time he called me from the hospital and asked I come visit him. I was to busy. We spoke several times while he was in the hospital but I never knew why he was there (Paul was good at keeping things light). He passed a short time after our conversations and when I found out I was furious that I had not made time to visit him in the hospital. I think of him regularly and wish I had done things differently. He gave me some of my fondest memories, things I speak about often today, and helped me complete my career.

I was telling a story to my wife about about Paul, when he and I use to work at a skating rink in Austin together back in the late 80s. I decided after being gone for most of life in the military to reach out to him.
Finding out that I missed out reconnecting with my old friend, whos loyalty was only matched by his fathers, puts a harsh reminder of how fragile life is... Now I truly miss him.

My deepest condolences to his family.

I truly apologize and share my deepest condolences. I very well could be wrong but found this obituary by mistake but I don't believe I did. The Paul I knew had a sister named Alida and a dad who loved classical music and math. I'm so sorry if I've found a different Paul Anton and if by such unfortunate chance this is the obituary of my fourth and fifth grade friend I am so regretfully sorry. I lived in Austin back then and Paul along with Sr. and Alida became close friends for only a minute, but often through my life I've thought of them and especially Paul and his love for water and boats. Sorry if I've wasted time I truly truly hope I'm wrong but if not God has his plans. I think. Much love and much respect.
Sincerely,
Jason Dean Layne

Dear Teresa and family,

I am very saddened to hear about Paul's passing. Although I only knew Paul and your family for a short time It was clear to me he was a man that lived every day for his family and to the fullest. I know words are only a small gesture of support. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you, your children and the rest of your family during this time of sorrow.

With deepest sympathy,
