Paul Gardner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 7, 2025.
Paul Otis Gardner, a dedicated public servant, proud veteran, and passionate enthusiast of history and heritage, passed away on August 3, 2025, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was 73 years old.

Born on January 5, 1952, in Ashland, Kentucky, Paul was the son of Charles Otis Gardner and Hilda Mary Sinnette. From an early age, he developed a deep appreciation for tradition and legacy-interests that would shape both his personal passions and professional pursuits throughout his life.

In 1973, Paul enlisted in the United States military as a medic. He served with distinction for sixteen years before retiring in 1989. His time in service reflected his enduring commitment to helping others and his steadfast sense of duty.

Following his military career, Paul transitioned into public service as a cross connection inspector. He worked first for the city of Westfield, Massachusetts, and later for the city of Lawrence. In both roles, he brought diligence and integrity to ensuring the safety and quality of municipal water systems-an often unseen but vital responsibility that he carried out with pride until his retirement.

Outside of work, Paul was known for his vibrant interests and intellectual curiosity. He was an avid Renaissance faire connoisseur who delighted in immersing himself in the pageantry and historical reenactments that brought centuries-old traditions to life. His love for genealogy also ran deep; he spent countless hours researching family histories and tracing ancestral roots-a pursuit that connected him not only to the past but also to future generations.

Paul's family was central to his life. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of two years Susan; daughter Rebecca Wilson (Stanley); son Charles Gardner (Sharon); daughter Megan Barstow (Ian); and granddaughter Felicity. He also shared many years with his former spouse Ann. Though their paths diverged later in life, their shared history remained an important chapter in Paul's journey.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Otis Gardner and Hilda Mary Sinnette; his brother Phillip David Gardner; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins whose memories he honored through his genealogical work.

Paul's legacy is one of service-to country, community, and family-and of passion for the stories that shape who we are. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to those who follow in his footsteps. He will be missed by many.
