Paul Mitchell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2023.
Paul Robert Mitchell died peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on March 7, 1953 in Washington, DC and grew up on his family's farmette on the banks of the Patuxent River in Howard County. He attended Glenelg Country School and was a graduate of Atholton High School. He served in the US Navy and upon discharge, went to work as a carpenter, a job he did with relish. Working in commercial construction for Dustin Construction in Ijamsville, Maryland he helped build many schools and churches. One of the projects he was most proud of was the building of Christ Church in Columbia, which is alongside of the older church, known as Old Brick. He will be interred in the churchyard near his family.

Paul loved the outdoors and spent many hours rambling through the woods and paddling on the rivers. As a younger man, he traveled to many countries with his young family. Fond of all kinds of music, he was a great dancer and loved a good time. He will be remembered for his wit and good nature.

He is predeceased by his parents, George Day and Jacqueline Milette, his daughter Aimee Michelle, his brother, John Richard, and sister Jacqueline Day His first marriage to Christine Hawkes ended in divorce. He is survived by two children, Paul Joseph Cristopher, Tyler Jorge), his sister, Lucy Mitchell, and his wife, Robin Russell Mitchell, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and stepchildren.

His memorial service will be June 17, 2023 at 2 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, Columbia, MD. Donations in Paul's memory can be made to Friends of the Patapsco Valley State Park.

Your sons and your sister went to scatter your ashes at the same place that you did Aimee´s 6 years ago. I am glad you are back home with your baby girl. I wish you had had so much more time to enjoy life, retirement & love. You so deserved it. Thank you for helping create our family and for the 3 decades we journeyed together.

Paul and his family were a wonderful chapter for my brothers and I in our younger years. We ran all over the fields and up and down the river till we'd go home exhausted, happy and hungry! So many fond memories. Peace and Love to All. Terrie [Higdon] Dustin and Dave Dustin.

Paul was a fellow classmate at AHS. He was cool, congenial, and had a lot of friends - one of the guys you'd hoped would be in some of your classes. Gone too soon and he'll be missed but never forgotten. My condolences to family and friends. Rest in peace Paul.

Graduated high school with Paul. He was good looking and soft spoken. He had a few GREAT parties at his parents house! Didn't know he was a carpenter. Prayers to all family members.
