Paul Niemeier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 17, 2018.
Paul Ryan Niemeier, 58, of Ammon, Idaho, passed away from natural causes on January 12, 2018.
Paul was born March 20, 1959, in Idaho Falls to Henry M. and Maxine P. Niemeier of Shelley. He grew up on a farm outside of Shelley, Idaho, and spent his youth playing league sports in baseball, basketball and football.

He graduated from Shelley High School in 1977. During his high school years, he excelled in varsity sports being selected on the All Conference Football League as a wide receiver, a talented forward in basketball where he held District 6 scoring records, and running track on relay teams winning state titles. He received an award for Basketball Player of the Year in his senior year.

After graduating from high school, Paul attended the University of Idaho. He Joined the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity and was involved in many Intramural sports leagues, leading teams to capture several Campus-Greek Intramural championships for ATO throughout his college career. He graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications.

He started his career in financial and business management with Farmer's Insurance Company in Pocatello, Idaho. He advanced within Farmers Insurance where he held various entry and mid-level management positions working in several western states before finishing his life long career in 2015, as the Business Insurance Manager for the State of Nevada; in charge of 245 agents and 7 District Managers. Later in that same year, Paul moved back to Idaho to assist with the care of his mother.

Paul never lost his love for sports. He was an avid golfer, hunter, bowler, billiards player and fisherman. Throughout his life, he played on various city leagues in basketball, rugby and softball and coached teams in youth sports. During football season, nothing came before a Pittsburg Steelers game, being a true fan.

He was an ardent reader and movie fan throughout his life and maintained large collections. His friends meant a lot to him and he was known for his loyal dedication and devotion.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Chris; and his sister-in-law Carla. He is survived by his sister Theresa, (Buddy) Walters, Colleyville TX; brother Todd (Suzanne) Niemeier, Marietta, GA; brother Scott (Cindy) Niemeier, Spokane, WA; Niece Lindsay (Jakob) Scott, Othello, WA; Nephews Ryan Niemeier, Marietta, GA; Austin Niemeier, Sandy Springs, GA; Matthew Niemeier, Vancouver, WA; and Hunter Niemeier, Baton Rouge, LA.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Paul's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Paul's family at this time.
I have fond memories of Paul from Sunday school, confirmation and church youth groups, where we became friends at a young age.
Growing up we both loved sports and we played together on three I.F. City League championship basketball teams from 5th to 7th grade.
He had a love of sports and was a great competitor. Those years always bring back fond memories.
May God's peace be with you.

I wrote my first commercial policy with the help of Paul, and he became a valued friend. He knew everything you could know about commercial insurance, and he never hesitated to offer his time and share his wisdom. I loved his matter of fact personality, his kind heart, and that great robust laugh of his. I will specially miss our talks on sports and politics.

I was shocked and sadded to hear of Paul's passing; my sincere condolences to your family through this difficult time! I met and got to know Paul at the Firehouse Grill, here in Idaho Falls. I found Paul to be interesting and liked him. His love of sports was almost contagious, it was fun to watch and listen to him! He volunteered to help 2 of my sons who graduated from the U of I by networking with people he knew from his career and college. Paul spoke of his mother very often; as well, he talked about his friendship with Mario Hill, as well, spoke of Mario's loyalty - I'm glad he had the friend he did in Mario! Paul's presence and excitement (watching sports) will be missed by many of us that got to know him at the Firehouse!
