Irvin Cole Obituary
Irvin H. Cole, 90, of Largo, Florida, died Sunday, Oct 2, 2011. He was born February 25, 1921 in Findlay, Ohio.
After serving his country with honor during WWII and receiving numerous medals, including the bronze star, he became a teacher and subsequently the Director of Florida High School in Tallahassee, Florida for 15 years.
Irvin retired from the University of Georgia, where he was a professor of education in the Atlanta area. Irvin was very active in the local church and community. He will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he touched through his singing and love. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Cole, three children: Debbie (Forrest) Kelley, Joe (Laura) Cole, Jim (Judy) Cole; five stepchildren: Karen (Larry) Charters, Dan (Gina) Fabello, Dave (Lise) Fabello, Kevin Fabello and Kathy Berry; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Tara Gardens Chapel in Jonesboro, Georgia at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Dr. Lawrence Wilson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local hospice care or the Leukemia Foundation. Donations may also be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Dear Irv, it is with such great sadness that we must say goodbye. From the moment you came into our lives you made us feel loved and appreciated. Your wonderful and gentle soul will truly be missed. It has been such a pleasure to spend some time with Mary Ellen and Mr. Cole during the past several years and to witness their singing duo. I only hope that I can maintain my zest for life the way Mr. Cole did. There is definitely a void left by his death. My love and prayers go out to all the Cole family and especially to that wonderful lady - Mary Ellen!

Uncle Irv always welcomed everyone with a genuine smile and big hug that warmed our souls. He had that way of asking you to take a look at something and that fatherly way of talking with you. I hope he is remembered for his beautiful voice, his commitment to family, friends, and faith, and for the strength to be himself regardless of what he was facing. My condolences to my cousins and Mary Ellen for the loss of a husband and father and may you rest in peace, Uncle Irv.
