Paul Stephens Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2025.
Paul F. Stephens, age 60, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on September 21, 2025.

Paul was the beloved son of Ann Kolm, his stepfather, Harvard Kolm, and the late Frederick Stephens. He grew up with a spirit of adventure and curiosity that never left him!

Growing up on the Niagara River, Paul became an avid sailor, was a Licensed U.S. Coast Guard Captain, and had a fun first job with RCR Yachts, driving the launch service for the boats on the Lower Niagara during the summer months.

In the outdoors, Paul developed an interest in photography, capturing countless beautiful sunsets over the water, which he framed and gifted. Paul grew up skiing at Holimont and was known for his high-speed descents straight down the hill! Paul was a competitive long-distance runner participating in dozens of community races, several Turkey Trots, and he ran the Buffalo Marathon in 2005. Paul had a passion for disc golf and became a pioneer in its development, working with the New York State Department of Parks, designing Disc Golf courses throughout the Region. In 2021, he was inducted into the New York State Disc Golf Hall of Fame because of his many contributions.

Friends and family will remember Paul as approachable, thoughtful, and easygoing, someone who brought happiness, humor, and kindness into the lives of those around him. He was social and enjoyed music, a pint of Guinness, attending concerts, and Bills Games. He had close and devoted friends, including Leslie & Paul Lymburner and Jane Kwiatkowski.

Paul graduated from SUNY Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He began his career as a reporter for the Niagara Falls Gazette, as well as working on many freelance articles. For close to 15 years, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry with ANDA, where he enjoyed a rewarding career.

Known for his dedication and warmth, Paul built lasting relationships with clients across the country. The family would like to thank Paul's colleagues at ANDA for their support, kindness, and compassion.

He is survived by his mother, Ann Kolm, and stepfather, Harvard Kolm his brothers, David Stephens (Deirdre) and Gordon Stephens (Cathy) his sisters, Linda Pardee (Brian), Susan Stephens (Fernando Perez), and Barbara Stephens and his stepsisters, Christina Kolm (Greg Hack) and Suzanne Kolm. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 3, at Rhoney Funeral Home from 3PM-7PM, 901 Cayuga St, Lewiston, NY.

Church service will be held in honor of Paul at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 4 at St. John's Episcopal Church at 110 Chestnut Street in Youngstown, NY.

Paul volunteered with the Salvation Army's Christmas Red Kettle Campaign as a bell ringer, so in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that the next time you pass one of those bell ringers, you might consider donating or that you honor Paul's memory by embracing the kindness, adventure, and curiosity he represented.

To Paul´s family,

I was a customer of Paul´s when he was at ANDA. We would have conversations not just regarding the pharmacy but even life. He was very kind and never had a frown on his face. I still remember him sending our staff flowers and many edible gifts throughout my time at the store. I left the store 3 years ago but did connect with Paul through FB. I know he´s in a great hands! Great person even greater personality!!

I will always recall Paul laughing while riding his moped up and down River road on the way to YYC as a kid. Always had a contagious smile and laughing at life
RIP Paul.

I crossed paths with Paul less and less frequently since graduating high school. Sometimes, it would be five or more years since I last bumped into him somewhere unexpected, but somehow, we could pick up the conversation right where we left off. He was like that with people, curious, funny, and kind. I was always happy to see him, and so sad to hear of his passing.

I'm passing on condolences on behalf of a few disc golfers here in Toronto. We have some great memories of travelling down to Lewiston and playing with Paul as well as road trips together to different tournaments. Paul was a kind soul and a pleasure to chat with. Thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

I had so hoped to see him at the recent reunion. Maybe he graduated a different year. I remember him from my writing class at NCCC. Paul was a kind soul. I enjoyed every encounter with him. Love and blessings to all who loved him.

Although I never met Paul in person, I felt like we were so close. I´ve known him for over 10 years and care so deeply for him. He was such a kind, caring, supportive person - helped me often with all types of issues ... including helping me locate job prospects ... and was always optimistic and encouraging.
He was always so upbeat and enthusiastic... and I am so fortunate to have known him. He always wanted me to meet his friends that live in Mt Pleasant... and we were planning to meet soon. He definitely loved his guiness and he also loved Pinot Grogio.
I will miss him so much! He was a very best friend to me, even though we never actually met. I so wish I would have met him in person...

I grew up right down the street from Paul and we rode the school bus together, skid together, hung out at the yacht club together. He was one of the kindest people I knew and a loyal friend. He will always hold a special place in my heart. You left your mark on the world Paul with all of your kind deeds. Rest in peace, my friend, you will be missed.

I knew Paul from his tireless work in the Buffalo-Niagara region disc golf community. I would often see him while I was out on the course playing a round and we would chat about new courses, changes to existing courses and disc golf in general. He was always so welcoming and eager to listen and help. The entire disc golf community will miss his hard work, dedication, and warm personality. My deepest condolences.

I only knew Paul from dealing with him at Anda. He was Pablo and I was Juanita. We kept in touch outside of business and we had never met in person but he was an awesome person with a positive personality. He will be missed.
