Paula Boyce Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2024.
Paula Marie Schwolert King Boyce, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023. Paula was born in Bayside, New York on November 15, 1932 to Rev. Walter and Marie Schwolert. After graduating from Bayside High School, Paula attended Concordia College in Bronxville, NY and graduated from Flower 5th Avenue School of Nursing in New York City as a registered nurse. She enjoyed 40 years of nursing, the last two decades of which were at Auburn Medical Clinic in Auburn, CA.

Paula was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Penryn, CA for many years and loved working on the altar guild and singing in the church choir. She loved music and often shared her fond memory of seeing Nat King Cole perform in a small club in New York when she was a nursing student. Paula was also an accomplished seamstress, selflessly handmaking everything from Barbie clothes to prom dresses to home textiles over the years.

In the last several years, Paula's vision became impaired due to advanced macular degeneration. The activity that brought her the most joy during this time was listening to talking books provided by the National Library Service for the Blind. She listened to books for hours, recounting the characters and plots of stories to her family and friends.

Paula is survived by her sons James King (Pam) and Jonathan King (Helen), daughter Leslie King (Chris Furgiuele), stepson Jimmy Boyce (Lisa), grandchildren Lauren and Benjamin Boyce, great-grandson Micah Boyce, and many beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Marion Finger; brother Norman Schwolert; husband James King; and husband Norman Boyce.

A memorial service will be held on March 2, 11:00AM at Hope Lutheran Church, 7117 Hope Way, Penryn, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Paula's name to the National Library Service for the Blind: https://www.loc.gov/nls/who-we-are/donate/
