Pauline Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2022.
Pauline was born in Massachusetts on June 28, 1943 to Wilfred and Dorothy Picard. At age 11, her parents and 2 brothers, Ed (9-2-2003) and Richard (10-13-2005) moved to Phoenix and Pauline has been a life long resident of South Phoenix ever since. She attended Roosevelt School District and went on to attend South Mountain High school and graduated in 1961. It was there at SMHS, that she met Kenneth Wood. In 1963, she and Ken married and shared 55 years together until his passing in 2018. Together, they welcomed their daughter Corrine into their world and many years later, 2 grandsons Kevin and Joseph, who were the light of her life.
Pauline was the pillar of her community. There wasn't any place or any one that she didn't know or that didn't know her. She believed in giving back to her community by way of volunteering and as such, she served as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts, Roosevelt School District PTA, volunteer seamstress for Valley View and T.G.Barr schools Band, various food pantries, spent over 40 years volunteering for the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department and South Phoenix Festival of Thanksgiving Committee. Pauline's favorite community activity was the Haunted House/Hayride which served 4 generations of her community. In the midst of all of her volunteering, she also worked for the City of Phoenix City Managers Office and the Library Department.
After her retirement, she enjoyed many adventures such as traveling the world with her friends Judy Bradley (7-28-2017), Maurene Helmkay (8-6-2017) and Karen Mischlispy and they became known as the South Phoenix Golden Girls. Her travels included, Rome, Cairo, the Pyramids and other famous locations.
In lieu of flowers, Pauline asks that you go to lunch with friends and laugh as she always did, plant a tree in her honor or donate to Hospice of the Valley.
A private celebration of Pauline's life will be hosted by her daughter and grandsons on 4-10-2022.
Arrangements entrusted to Lowman's Arizona Funeral Home, (602) 276-3601.
