PENELOPE KOTSONIS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2020.
KOTSONIS--Penelope. It is with the deepest sadness that the family of Penelope Kotsonis announces her passing on September 14, 2020. Born in Athens, Greece, Penelope came to New York City in 1955 with the intention of staying one year, married the love of her life, George, and stayed for 65 years. She was a devoted and loving wife to George and was the definition of a selfless and adoring mother to her three children. She will be profoundly missed by her husband, George, her children Marie and her husband Napoleon Nezer, Christianna and her husband Christopher Long, and Nicholas and his wife Christine Kotsonis. Her three grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexander and Stefania are heartbroken. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Funeral services will be held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 337 E. 74th St., NY, NY, on Saturday, September 19th at 9am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a children's charity close to Penelope's heart at: www.hamogelo.gr/gr/en/

To The Kotsonis Family

I am shocked and so very sorry to hear of the passing of dearest Penny!

I planned to call Penny just last week to arrange our annual lunch. It was always so much fun chatting about old times as well as the changes in our lives.

The last time we met, Penny looked wonderful and I told her how much I loved her haircut. She looked wonderful!! She shrugged it off like she didn’t like it... but I repeated how great it looked!

Needless to say, Penny, unbeknownst to me, was in a battle for her life!

To my dearest friend Penny I say, I will never forget youyour style your grace, your kindness, your everything! I cannot think of a negative moment spent with you. Penelope you were a treasure and I’m missing you already. I am blessed to have had you as a friend and supporter and I cherish the wonderful memories of you and your family in my life.

Blessings to the entire family.

And Penny, GOD BLESS and KEEP YOU UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN.

Most sincere condolences.

Diann Harris-Wright and family.

Penny was one of my mom's closest friends and a dear friend to my entire family. I was young when my mom worked with Penny and I remember her to be so sweet and beautiful (she was a stunner)! She always treated me like a son; always offering advice, sometimes pocket change and a scolding every now and then. She had a way about her that bought out the best in everyone within her reach. I remember her husband George, son Nicholas and Christiana and they were all so friendly and welcoming. Which, in my young mind, made sense - she created a beautiful family in her glow.
Penny was my favorite amoungst my mom's friends and I'm just so sad I never told her. She is in a place way better than here and I'm sure she's already at work making that place better too! Big giant hugs to George, Nicholas and Christiana and the rest of her family. Love always, Chris Rigby (son, Carol Harris)
