Even though I only got to work with Peter briefly while on the IPCC I quickly realized his passion for helping the sport move forward was second to none. Peter certainly got his point across while ensuring that everyone felt comfortable and engaged in the process. I didn't know Peter outside of that, but if he was anything like he was in our meetings not only has our community lost a great friend, so has everyone who knew him.

So sorry I couldn't be at the celebration today. I was thinking of Peter today and the wonderful contribution he has made to rowing and to so many other things. One of the things that I love about Peter is how he was true to the things and people he loved...and this is how he spent his time and his energy. In his last couple of years, I heard many stories of time spent with Bonnie, children and grandchildren. We, as a rowing community, are honoured that he continued to spend time with us.

Although I will say more at the celebration of Peter's life, I want to repeat here what I said about him at the annual general meeting of Rowing Canada Aviron last January. Peter was a big man, with a big heart and a big vision. His contribution to rowing in Canada was enormous. He will be missed!

It saddened me to hear of Peter's passing. He was a great mentor and I appreciated all his help and support with my portfolio positions on the RCA Board. On behalf of the Rowing BC Board and all the rowing members in BC we send our thoughts to your family. We will miss Peter and his contribution to our sport.

Peter was instrumental in 2003 with the planning and logistics of CANAMEX in Prince Albert (one of the many great gifts he has given our sport).I am at CANAMEX right now in Mexico City. When I arrived here yesterday I met a man by the name of Jose Antonio Noriega (Chaparro). When he found out I was from Saskatchewan he immediately started reminiscing about Prince Albert/Sturgeon Lake and how it was his favorite CANAMEX he has ever been to (I think he has been to about 10), he loved the venue and the energy of all who were there, he went on and on about Saskatchewan and his experience. Before I could get a word in, Chaparro started talking about "Peter, the man with the long hair in the back". He absolutely adores Peter and when he finished talking about how great he was to him and the entire Mexican team, I told him Peter had past away......his reaction was undescribable, it shows the impact that Peter had on everyone he met (even if for only one week!)
Personally I will miss Peter and I am forever thankful for what he has done for Saskatchewan Rowing and our close Rowing Family.

Peter and I were classmates during our schooling at the UBC School of Social Work. It was Peter's inspiration and understanding that social work was really about changing the world we live in and to assist people in achieving that goal rather than to assist people in simply accepting the status quo. Peter was an important influence on my and many of our classmates understanding of what needed to be done and that very aspect had great impact on many of our lives and our work. My further work with Peter in northern Saskatchewan had a profound impact on my life and work.
Thank you Peter for your teachings and your leadership in a world that needs change for the betterment of all persons.

Very sad to hear this news. I meet Peter through rowing. The first time I meet him and listened to him speak at the Board meeting we were attending I was impressed with the man. Very calm, cool and clear thinking, to the point yet great sence of humor. He was helpful to me and my club. As we in the Rowing world know he contruibited so much to out sport.Glad to get to know you Peter. You will be missed.

To the Brook Family,
I was contacted by Peter prior to the 2011 Western Canada Games and he expressed wanting to drop in as he believed supporting events like that were crucial to the growth of the sport. We met in Kamloops at Shumway Lake and, although looking so official in his RCA jacket, he was very easy to talk to and I managed to pull him into the medal ceremony to be a part of our celebration of athletes' accomplishments. My time with Peter was brief during the Games, but I valued his "stopping in" to support us. I suspect he lived his life in this manner with a passion about the sport and a willingness to help out when needed.
You are in my thoughts at this difficult time.
Sincerely, Janine

To Bonnie and Family
I knew Peter through rowing and what a great contribution you and your family made to this wonderful sport. From the burned docks at PA Rowing Club to the careful guidance for RCA, he could handle it all - because you were there with him. I will go down to the Winnipeg Rowing Club dock at sunrise and cast a flower for him. Be well. Sandi

Anne-Marie and Sarah (both former rowers) and the rest of our family send our commiserations to all of you.
I recall being up to my chest in Sturgeon Lake with Bob Haver and others, putting in a regatta course, when Peter pulled up in his motorboat. He didn't need to come up from P.A. that day, but did so to support us anyway. Says it all about his volunteer spirit and his concern for others.
