Mr. Burgel taught me grade 6 at Brentwood. I remember he read The Cay aloud to us. It was so impactful. He had high expectations and treated us like full people, not like little kids. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

Mr. Burgel was my favourite teacher ever! I vividly remember my Grade 6 year with him at Brentwood Elementary oh so many years ago. He was the kind of teacher they make movies about. He really brought the curriculum to life for us. I'm a teacher now myself and marvel at the amount of creativity and work that all he brought to the classroom must have taken. I also particularly enjoyed singing the songs he taught us as he played his guitar. I also remember a reunion our class had at his house during the summer because he'd extended an open invitation to us to visit him and we took him up on it. I remember he was watching a brand new channel - "Much Music" when we arrived. I'm sad to know that Mr. Burgel left this world at such a young age. He made a huge difference in his chosen occupation . . . his impact continues to ripple on in all of us who he taught and who are now making impacts of our own. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope these memories and stories have been a comfort to you.

I have many good memories, Sarah, of spending time with you and your dad when you were small, one particularly at the pizza place with you and Daria. He was very proud of you. I am sorry I can't be with you on Monday to share in your grief. I want you to know our thoughts are with you and your family during this very difficult time.
