Peter Lukacs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2011.
LUKACS, Peter It is with immeasurable sadness that the family announces the passing of Peter Lukacs on Friday, June 10, 2011 after a fourteen year battle with cancer. He fought with bravery and dignity never feeling sorry for himself and always grateful for the care he was given. Peter was born in Totszerdahely, Hungary on June 19, 1938 to Kathleen and Raymond Lukacs. He lived in Hungary until age eighteen when the revolution started. He was not a man that believed in war and escaped on a ship, came to Canada to live and left his entire family behind in Europe, where they remain today. He started working in construction and met Ann whom he married three short months later in May of 1962. Peter worked as a carpenter for most of his life and had a natural gift for finishing work. His last job before retirement was at the Hotel Saskatchewan as the Chief Engineer, a job that he enjoyed having at the end of his career. Peter retired in 2003 and was able to rest and relax at their house at the lake. He had the good fortune to do a fair bit of travelling over his life, many times home to Europe to see his family and various other places in the world. Peter took great pride in family and was always happy to spend time with his children and their families. Peter was predeceased by his father Raymond; mother Kathleen; brothers Vince, Steve, Joe and Raymond; in-laws John and Theresia Kittler; and a granddaughter Abby in infancy. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his wife of 49 years Ann; son James (Sheri) Lukacs and their children Annika and Simon, daughter Terri (Jim) Carlson and their children Amy and Aubree; his sisters Mary Daras and Katherine Huller; brother Laszlo in Hungary; brother-in-law John (Pat) Kittler as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of Palliative Care for their compassion and help over the last year and a half. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3510 Queen St., Regina, SK on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK with reception at Regina Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined; donations may be made in Peter's memory to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, 204 3775 Pasqua Street, Regina, SK S4S 6W8.
