FITCHBURG -- Peter L. Stathis, 84, of 56 West St., died Saturday, March 27, at HealthAlliance The Highlands Long Term Care Center.
Mr. Stathis was born in Fitchburg on Nov. 21, 1919, the son of Charles C. and Panayiota (Koufetous) Stathis, and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Fitchburg High School and received the Gold F Special Honors Award.
He was employed for 40 years as a heat treater at the former Simonds Saw & Steel Co.
Mr. Stathis was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and was a past board member and past vice president of the board of directors of the church and served as treasurer for more than 30 years. He was the church historian and church cantor for many years. In 1987, he received the Boston Diocese Laity Award.
Mr. Stathis, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, leaves two sons, George P. Stathis and his wife Maria, and Ernest P. Stathis and his wife Elizabeth of Fitchburg; one daughter, Pamela L. Stathis of Fitchburg; one brother, William C. Stathis of Bradford; four grandchildren, Louis Stathis and Anne-Marie Stathis, both of Roslindale and Katrina Stathis and Sarah Stathis, both of Fitchburg; three sisters-in-law, Pauline Demey of Manchester, N.H., and Sophie Pappas and Anna Davis, both of Lowell. Mr. Stathis’ wife of 63 years, Theone G. (Stamas) Stathis, died March 5. A son, Charles P. Stathis, died May 8, 1997. His sister, Anna Stathis, died many years ago.
STATHIS -- The funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main St. The Revs. Solon Tsandikos and Sotirios Alexopoulos will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours were held Sunday in Bosk Funeral Home, 85 Blossom St. Contributions in his memory may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 1319 Main St., Fitchburg, MA, 01420.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of both your mother and father in the same month. What a hard cross to bear all at once. I remember your father well from when I worked on Main St. back in the 70s.
