I served as Peter's training director at Mayo Clinic. I knew that he had been ill and was discussing his wonderful gentle nature with a colleague. So sorry to discover of his death. Condolences to Annette and the six children, of whom he spoke so lovingly when last we spoke in 2012. We remember him as an outstanding resident, and a fine, fine man. God bless you Peter.

I also was looking up Dr Townley today to see where he was practicing, only to learn this sad news. Truly a saint of a man, he will be greatly missed. Terribly sorry to hear of his loss; my condolences to his family, he was truly a gem of a person.

I only today looked up Dr. Townley's name to see where he was practicing. So terribly shocked to see that he passed. He was my oncologist in 1997-1998. Between him and my surgeon, I know they saved my life. God bless him and his family.

Pete Townley was my husbands doctor after having Hodgkins Disease twice two years apart. He was a guiding light for him & a force of positive energy. Such a kind person who will live on in so many survivors memories that he has helped with their own battles. He has definitely left an imprint that will never be forgotten.

I did not know Peter personally, but I was blessed and graced to be in the Townley home many times while at CU and to witness the love in your family. My own brother would have turned 50 this year had a car crash not taken him at 31. My prayers go to Peter and all of the Townleys and your extended family. Every Townley I met or knew made a positive impact upon me, some of you profoundly so. I'm sure the same was true of Peter and his legacy of love and compassion. God Bless and keep you all.

Indeed, Peter Townley was, and still is somewhere above, a wonderful person and excellent doctor. I was a patient of his in 1995. I did not know of his passing until today. My heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and patients. He is greatly missed.

Annette,
My heart just sank when Pamela Franks informed me of Pete's passing. He was recently helping me get my 27 year old cousin with metastatic lung cancer, to be seen by doc's in his group. We went to med school together, as we all went to undergrad together, but when I called him out of the blue he was so so kind to do everything he could to help me. I am so sad for your loss, it sounds like his patients loved him and i am sure he was just a gift from God with all the care he gave them. If you need anything from me, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Dear Townley Families,
We knew Pete as a young boy growing up on 53 St., just two doors down from us. He and my brother Mark were good friends during those years. We got reaquainted when our mom was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Pete was so kind and caring not only to Mom but our entire family. From George, Mark, Ann and the rest of the Ostermiller clan, please accept our condolences and prayers. He was a gift that God shared with so many people.

As a patient of Dr. Townley, I found him to be such a kind and caring doctor. He spent time making sure you understood what was happening. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. There are so many kind things that have already been said and I concur. He had such a wonderful humorous side. During one of my checkups in December, he said …just a minute… he came back holding his white coat closed. He turned around and stuck his head out the door looking right then left, he turned around and said I have a gift for you, I robbed the medicine cabinet. He had some samples of the meds I took. He looked at me with a big grin and said, “Merry Christmas.” We both laughed so hard. Frankly he doesn't know that it was a gift. I know when he entered heaven, the Lord said,"Welcome, Good and Faithful Servant!"

I am crying as I write this. Dr. Townley was our sister's Oncologist. Dolores had a long battle with esophageal cancer. He took such amazing care of her, she was never afraid, never complained. He loved the Lebanese pastries she would bring the office and she always made sure he had enough tickets for the ethnic dinner at St. Marys. She spent the last weeks of her life at a care facility. On the morning that she passed, just as she was leaving us, we looked up and there was Dr. Townley in the doorway. Somehow he knew we all needed him. He stayed with us through prayers and goodbyes. We will never forget that love and compassion. We know that Dolores met him with a plate of Baklawa and set a place for him at the table in heaven. May his memory be eternal.

God will be so glad to welcome him home. God Bless!!

My thoughts and prayers for Annette and family as well as his parents and siblings on the loss of such an outstanding human being.
Upon hearing of Pete's death, these words of St. Paul immediately came to mind: "I have fought the good fight, I have run the full distance and I have kept the Faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)
Pete was a lot of good things, a lot of really good things, but underpinning everything were two bedrock principles: his deep vibrant Faith and his openness to growth and change, even to dying.
May this great man rest in peace.
December 18, 2013
Our deepest sympathy to the entire Townley family. Pete was so good to my mother, just not as a patient but as a God loving man! I had the pleasure to coach Conor for a time, and I can only say I have never met a better family. Blessings and comfort that only our Lord and Savior can give!

I was 15 when Dr Townley treated me for lymphoma. I will never forget his kindness and his care. He was optimistic and bright, even though he had a tough job. They are the reason that I am 33 today. Thank you Dr Townley for all that you did for others. Prayers to your family in this difficult time.

The night my mother passed away, Dr. Townley was on rounds. He came to let me know there was nothing more to do and it was time to let her go. He talked with me and held my hand and gave me a hug when he left. I have always remembered his kindness that dark lonely night. He made sure my mother and I were taken care of. He was kind, caring and his compassion for others was important to him. Thank you for sharing your loved one with us.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. Dr. Townley was one of the angels who saved my life, and I am so thankful to have had him fighting my battle with me. He always had a smile, was so optimistic, and was unfailingly kind and caring, and I know that had a great deal to do with my treatment and recovery. I always looked forward to my visits with him - which is saying something when you're talking about cancer treatment. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends. What a tremendous loss to everyone who was fortunate enough to have known him. If there truly is a special place in heaven, Dr. Townley's in a front row seat there.

To to the family of the wonderful Dr. Townley, I am so glad I had the privelege to work as a Clinic Nurse ( L.P.N.) with your loved one when he started coming over to Creighton Oncology to help out. He was an amazing doctor & his compassion was outstanding. He never let his patients go through their trials alone. One specific case I recall was what taught me how wonderful he was. He always took the time to comfort his patients when things were full of sadness.May all have comfort in knowing that he was in heaven as soon as he took his last breathe, Sincerely, Sue Wrieth

My family was deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Townley. I first met Peter when we were moving our two daughters Shannon and Bridget into a 8 foot square "dorm room" at St. Joseph University for their Freshman year. I was so immediately taken back by his warmth and good nature. We were fortunate to get together four years later for our daughter's graduation (if you knew our daughters the word "fortunate" may be a bit timid) His smile and good nature in spite of his illness was inspiring, and I truly enjoyed his company and laughter, and his courage. I have a picture of both of us and our two daughters that I will treasure. May God Bless this good man who saved so many lives and touched so many others, and may his children not fail to live up to his legacy. We do not see the likes of a man like this often. John F. My heart is saddened with news of a wonderful doctor and friend who has passed. Dr. Peter Townely was my Oncologist. He was a wonderful man, doctor and friend. As a cancer patient you become attached to your doctors and nurses. You learn about them and their families. I remember one visit I had with Dr. Townley when he shared that his sister was getting married and he was having the "Pancake Man" come over to his house for the get together but instead of pancakes he was having hamburgers...and did I know that the "Pancake Man" also was the "Hamburger Man"? Dr. Townley was never in a hurry when he met with me or other patients. He was always willing to answer questions and he opened his heart to his patients and their families. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
