PHEBE BLAIR Obituary
PHEBE GOLDSBOROUGH MORSE BLAIR, age 89. Born in Cambridge, MD, daughter of the late Wilbur Morse and Henrietta Goldsborough Morse of Phila. After working for the Library Co. of Phila., Phebe graduated from Columbia Bible College, Columbia, SC where she met her husband, Howard Blair. In 1953 Howard and Phebe Blair moved to Tokyo, Japan, to serve as missionaries with SEND International. Phebe taught at the Christian Academy in Japan, served on the Academy PTA and Board of Directors and taught Bible studies on American military bases. She is survived by her husband of 58 yrs., daughters Virginia, Priscilla Strapp (Timothy), Anne Andrews (Allan), Cynthia Hunter and 11 grand children. Friends are invited to participate in Phebe's Life Celebration, from 6-8P.M. Thursday and from 10-11A.M. Fri. at GEITNER/GIVNISH OF OLNEY, 5th St. at Chelten Ave. (6300 N. 5th St.). Interment will follow on Friday at West-minster Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 18th at 3P.M. at Tenth Presbyterian Church, 17th & Spruce Sts., Phila. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to SEND International, Box 513, Farmington, MI 48332.

My greatest sympathy on the loss of your mother. With the recent passing of my mother, Ellen Barnett Schmidt, I just discovered that Phebe and my mother were childhood friends having both been raised in Cambridge, MD.and that they always kept in touch over the decades right up until their recent deaths. I have various Christmas cards and such from Howard and Phebe to my mom. Curious coincidence I am Ellen's adopted son, she had two other sons that she gave birth to, and my actual birth name is David Blair. Any thoughts on the coincidence in last names?

Having lost my own mother so recently I empathasize with your grief. Although I didn't know your mom, I am sure she was a terrific woman - after all I know the daughter she raised.
