Phil Caito Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2025.
Philip Clarke Caito, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong resident of Columbus, Ohio, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on August 4, 2025, at the age of 71.

Born on January 7, 1954 to extraordinary parents Thomas Joseph (deceased) and Mary Morse Caito, Phil lived a life rooted in community and generosity. He was the devoted husband of Teresa, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He was a proud and loving father to Laura Caito and Natalie Caito (Chris Scudder), and nothing brought him greater joy than being "Poppy" to his cherished granddaughter Molly Caito. He also deeply loved Dawn and Orli Fisch. Being the brother of Kit, Connie (Frank Aluise), Tommy (Eileen), and Anthony filled him with pride.

Phil was a proud graduate of St. Charles Preparatory School, an institution that helped shape his values of integrity, service, and commitment. Those same values carried through his lifelong involvement with Kiwanis, where he dedicated many years to serving others and improving the lives of children in the community.

A Celebration of Life honoring Phil's legacy will be held at St. Charles Preparatory School, located at 2010 E Board St., on Thursday, August 7, from 4 to 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you "round up" in honor of Phil. Whether it's for a cause, a stranger, or a moment of kindness. Phil believed the little things made a big difference, and he would be honored to have that tradition carried forward.

My deepest sympathy to the Caito family. Phil lived his life in all that he was taught by his parents, giving to others. Many times I joked with Phil Rotary or Kiwanis but always the end was the same, GIVING TO OTHERS. One thing common was our love and dedication to St Charles. RIP, until we meet again. Regretfully the miles apart did not allow me to be in the company of family and friends as the celebrated the life of this special man. If a memory card is available, please send me one. In a small way it helps with closure. Prayers, sympathy and love.

Growing up down the street from the Caitos was great. Anthony and I were close for years and "Flip" was the cool big brother that turned me on to muscle cars and cool bands like The Rolling Stones and Traffic. He leaves a legacy for sure. May his memory be as a blessing.

What an amazing man who certainly left a legacy. He was such a mentor, amazing father, husband and friend. The world lost a great man in person but will forever hold his spirit and presence for all to remember. His stories will live on!!

Didn´t know Phil personally but knew his sweet granddaughter Molly. I can see in her why he was so proud of her. Thoughts and prayers for family.

Phil was a character for sure, but someone you admired and wanted as your friend. Later, long after St. Charles, Phil felt like a brother, much more than just a friend. His departure left a void that can never be filled, but the echo of his laughter and the strength of his spirit will resonate with us forever.

As my friend, he provided a wealth of memories I will cherish forever. I only wished I had the chance to visit with him one additional time.
