KILGORE - Services for Phil D. Denny, M.D., 50, of Kilgore, will be 2 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Beebe officiating. Burial will follow in Old Prospect Cemetery, Mount Enterprise, Texas. Dr. Denny went to be with the Lord Monday, January 18, 2010, in Tyler, Texas.
Phil was born to Phil Denny Sr. and Mamie Ross Denny, October 24, 1959, in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Dr. Denny attended Mount Pleasant public schools and was a member of the 1978 South Grand Prairie High School graduating class. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and his doctorate degree in medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Phil did his internship in Waco, Texas, at the McClellan County Medical Research Foundation. The Dennys moved to Kilgore, in 1989, where he had his family practice until 1992, when he went to work full time in the Laird Emergency Room. Dr. Denny was well-suited as an emergency room physician. He had a true passion for his patients. Phil had several medical accolades including chief of staff at Laird Hospital and being Board-Certified in the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Dennys joined Grace Baptist Church in 1990, where Phil participated in numerous projects including operating the sound and electronic equipment of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Carpenter Denny of Kilgore; a son, David Ryan Denny of Kilgore; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bryan and Kathleen Strong Carpenter of Arlington; seven sisters, Pat Rutland and her husband Terry of Grand Prairie, Texas, Sue Mars and her husband, Charles of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Bernadette Kinslow and her husband Bobby of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Gloria Moss and her husband Wayne of Grand Prairie, Texas, Jo Campbell and her husband Roscoe of Mount Pleasant, Texas, Bonnie Holt of Dallas, and Phylis Hazel and her husband John Odom of Pearland, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a whole host of friends.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore, today, January 20, 2010, between 6-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, 119 Peavine Road, Kilgore, Texas 75662 or the Christian Heritage School of Longview, 2715 FM 1844, Longview, Texas 75605.
