GATTENS PHILIP L. (PHIL)
Age 88, of South Park, passed away on January 17, 2014. Son of the late James and Catherine (Murray) Gattens; brother of the late James and William Gattens, Isabelle Klockgether, Elizabeth Gattens, Mary Bruni McGaw and Patricia Lock; also survived by many nephews and nieces. A veteran of WWII, he served as a Navy Seabee in the Pacific Theater. While stationed in the Marianas, he and fellow Seabees worked day and night keeping the airstrips and runways in working order for the bombers on their missions to and from Japan. A skilled craftsman and master gardener, he enjoyed the quiet time spent working in his garden. Peaceful and friendly by nature, he will be remembered by family and friends for what he was, a good man. Friends received Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the GRIFFITH FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5636 Brownsville Road, Broughton-Curry-South Park Twp. Funeral Tuesday, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Church at 11 am. Interment in Jefferson Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Phil's name to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.

The Navy Seabee Veterans of Pittsburgh would like to express our deepest sympathy in your loss of Philip. Even though Philip wasn't a member of our group..... he is still and always be in our Seabee Family. May he have fair winds and following sea's in his journey home.
