Philip HORNER Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2003.
HORNER, Philip Born October 20, 1921, Phil passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital on Friday, February 14th at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Cran) with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage, father of Gerry (pre-deceased, 1996) and wife Arlene, and daughter Cathy MacDonald and husband John. Survived by grandchildren Sara and Alison Horner, Kim and Chuck Harris and Ian MacDonald. Great grandfather of Amber and Gage. Brother of Dorothy Jackson (Atlanta, Georgia) and Gerald (deceased) and wife Eva Horner (London, England), brother-in-law of the late Ian Cran (1965) and many nieces and nephews. For 40 years, Phil was in Industrial Relations (Plant Protection) at the Ford Motor Company of Canada and for many of those years, a past president of the Ford Gun Club. Having retired 22 years ago, he vigorously pursued his many interests including golf, bridge, swimming and fishing. He coached for the CNIB Blind Bowlers and participated in the church's bowling leagues. During the war he served with the Royal Air Force Medical Corp. His life was filled with an appreciation of music. As a teenager he played with the Windsor Symphony and the Essex Scottish Pipe Band. He loved country music and the opportunity to entertain others with his complete selection of Gaither videotapes. Over many years, he was an active member of Trinity United Church in Windsor serving on numerous committees and, with pride, was the director of the Bell Choir. Phil enjoyed life to the fullest. He shared his wonderful sense of humour and laughter with everyone who came in contact with him. He especially enjoyed his last year at Oak Park Terrace where he was surrounded by good friends and wonderful staff. He was devoted to his family who will miss his gentleness and kind smiles. If you so desire, donations to the Trinity United Church Memorial Fund or Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family. Visiting Sunday and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Tuesday 10:00 a.m. at Families First Funeral Home & Chapel (969-5841) 2670 Dougall Ave. with Rev. Laura Jo Marzec officiating.
