Phillip Lewis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 24, 2012.
BLACK EAGLE Phillip Michael "Mike" Lewis, 63, of Black Eagle, died of natural causes Friday, Oct. 12 at his home.

A graveside service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery. Cremation will take place under the direction of Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mike passed away after years of complications due to Guillain-Barre syndrome and diabetes. He was born in Denver on Oct. 5, 1949, to Don and Phyllis Lewis. He graduated from CMR High School in 1968. Mike joined the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and three Army Commendation Medals. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Mike worked for many different employers in the Great Falls area, including the exchange and carwash at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Department of Revenue, City Purchasing Office, Coast to Coast Store, Village Instant Press, Hickory Farms, Diamond Parking, 7-Eleven, Montgomery Wards and J.C. Penny's. He spent the 90s traveling to Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Ohio and Tennessee, working as a carpenter and oil pipeliner.

Mike loved riding his motorcycle and touring around in the school bus he had turned into a motor home. He had many friends from all over the country and loved partying with them whenever he could. Mike spent many hours writing in his journals and loved to write poems. He was a proud Vietnam veteran. Mike loved to garden and grow many beautiful plants, and, in recent years, he learned all about computers and spent many hours building them, playing online and surfing the web.

The visits and get-togethers with his family over the years, especially when he was ill, meant so much to him. He will be missed by his family forever.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Michele (Jimmy) Dick of Great Falls; his son David (JaLynn) Lewis of Helena; sister Donna Evans of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; many great friends; and his loving dog, Rebel.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Phyllis Lewis.

Michael my brother you will be truly missed. Your passion for enjoying life was inspiring! I'm sad we spent so much time apart but I take solace that we will all be reunited eventually. I pray that you received everything that you desired and needed on this journey and I hope your next spin on the wheel will be even better. The free bird has flown. Love ya bro'

My sincerest condoliences go to Mike's family. The loss of a parent is the loss like no other they brought you into the world and even when as adults you may not have agreed with your parent they would always love ya. Mike was my older brothers best friend and and recently mine. Talking with him reminded me so much of those days in the 1970s when all things seemed simpler. I will surely miss him.
