Phyllis Jane Thompson-Dreadfulwater was born on February 29th, 1936 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of John Ray and Nellie Irene (Bailey) Thompson. She grew up in a household with two brothers and three sisters, Charles, Roy, Charolette, Beverly and Betty. The family moved to the Tahlequah area, and upon completing school, Phyllis began her working career as a Certified Medication Aide. It was in 19-- that Phyllis married the love of her life and her best friend, Benny Lee Dreadfulwater. This union was blessed with five sons and one daughter, Mike, Darrell, James, Dale, Charlie, and Diana. Bennie was not to live a long life, just a happy one with Phyllis by his side. He passed away in May of 1979. Phyllis being the strong, determined wife and mother, worked two and three jobs to assure her children had everything they needed in life to succeed. She was industrious, sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren. Never one to sit and watch the world go by, her free time was spent in assisting the Briggs Cheerleading Squad, Selling Avon, and the best of all, always being the Grandma with the greatest grandchildren in sports and scouting! She made sure her children and grandchildren were raised with manners, no gum popping in front of Grandma! She was loving, kind, and gave great advise. She always knew what you needed, if only one of her hugs. She was a faithful member of Cedar Tree Church in Briggs, and a Christian by faith. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on February 14th, 2016, with her loved ones by her side. She was 79 years old.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Bennie, one brother, Charles Thompson and one sister, Betty Thompson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Mike Thompson, Darrell Dreadfulwater, James A. Dreadfulwater, Dale Dreadfulwater, Charlie Dreadfulwater, and Diana Dreadfulwater-Fairchild, all of Tahlequah. She leaves one brother and two sisters, Roy Thompson, Charolette Chandler, and Beverly Green, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
