Phyllis Fury Obituary

Published by Midland Daily News from Jul. 23 to Jul. 26, 2021.
Phyllis Fury
Phyllis Fury, 87 of Midland, died Thursday morning, July 22, 2021, at MidMichigan Medical Center. She was born March 4, 1934, in Hamtramck, MI daughter of the late Walter Wallace and Helen (Pryzstas) Wachnicki. Phyllis grew up in Detroit, MI and graduated from Hamtramck High School after which time she was employed as a secretary with the Chrysler Corporation. She later moved to Hawaii and was in a movie with Elvis Presley called 'Blue Hawaii'. Returning to Michigan from Hawaii she met her husband, fell in love, and was married October 30, 1965, in Detroit. Phyllis was extremely involved in the Midland Center for the Arts, both acting and working in various productions. She was very artistic and enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and crocheting. Painting also brought Phyllis great joy as well as reading which she did often. Another art form she embraced was her cake decorating which she was able to turn into a productive and profitable side business. For many years Phyllis hosted a group of friends at her home for their monthly "Stitching and Bitching". She was mostly known for her big heart and socializing with friends, family, and neighbors alike that she loved. Phyllis accomplished so much in her life that cannot be put into words, and for that, she will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her children, sons Marc (Brenda) Fury of Saginaw and Scott (Lisa) Fury of Yorba Linda CA, and daughters Tracey Ann Naples of Midland and Pamela (Michael) Kahn of Escondido CA; grandchildren, Nicholas Patrick Naples of Midland, Scott Daniel Naples of California, Hunter Scott Fury, and Connor John Thomas Fury both of Yorba Linda CA, and Joseph Daniel Kahn of Escondido CA, and one great granddaughter Kellcie Jean Naples of Midland. She is also survived by a brother Thomas (Bobbie) Wachnicki of Harrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Daniel John Fury on March 6, 2006; granddaughters: Gina Marie Kahn and Ashleigh Nichole Naples; a brother Daniel Wachnicki and a sister Anna Marie Ratalsky.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021, from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Fr. Rob Howe as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Phyllis' family will receive friends at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home 1200 West Wheeler Street on Monday from 2-8 p.m., and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of the Liturgy. The family will pray the Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home followed by a service of remembering. I knew Phyllis through our mutual participation with the member groups at the Midland Center for the Arts, particularly our service on the Music Society's Volunteer Relations Committee. Phyllis was the voice of experience while serving on the committee, advocating for the volunteers and sharing her wisdom gained through her many years with the Chorale and the musical productions. Phyllis was a joy to work with, always gracious and understanding, and she couldn't resist bringing some cookies or other baked goods to every committee meeting. She was a wonderful lady, and will be missed by all of us who knew her.

I was Phyllis' across the street neighbor on Westbrier Terrace for as long as she lived there. A marvelous baker, she often shared her bakery with me.
