Phyllis Stickney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 18, 2024.
Phyllis Jean Stickney, also known affectionately as Nanny, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, at the age of 91. She was born on March 31, 1932, in Charleston, West Virginia.

Phyllis, or Nanny as she was fondly called by her grandchildren, had a warm and loving nature that radiated through her role as a grandmother (nanny) and as a devoted mother to her daughter, Pamela McGlinchey.

She was an animal lover, particularly fond of cats, and rescued many strays over her lifetime. Phyllis had a deep appreciation for the arts and took great joy in watching her grandchildren perform in school plays. She also loved to travel and was able to visit her daughter and grandchildren in England many times when they lived overseas. Together they travel throughout Europe and enjoyed cruising.

Phyllis' life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family. She was a loving wife to her late husband, Samuel Pryor Stickney. They were married for 51 years.

She was a dedicated stay-at-home mother, pouring her heart into raising her daughter. Later in life, she volunteered at Brandon Regional Hospital and then worked as a switchboard operator there, where she made a positive impact on those around her.

A family graveside service will be held at 11am on January 20, 2024 at Memorial Park in St. Petersburg, Florida, to honor and remember Phyllis' life. She will be laid to rest among loved ones.

Nanny is survived by her beloved daughter, Pamela McGlinchey, her son-in-law, Norman Crum, her granddaughter, Tiffany McGlinchey, and her grandson, Thomas McGlinchey III, and her cat, Missy. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel Pryor Stickney.

Phyllis will be deeply missed and forever cherished in our hearts.

Phyllis was mom to my sister's best friend when growing up. Always a kind, friendly, caring woman who loved her family and was so proud of them! She will be greatly missed!!!

Phyl and I were early Elvis Presley fans, much to the chagrin of her parents. We saw Elvis at the Paramount theatre in St. Pete in the fall of 1956. Didn´t hear a word he sang-we were all screaming. Evelyn Taylor (Phyl´s Hawaii sister)

Clearwater beach with family. I remember swimming with Phyl and Pam as a toddler. I will remember her sweet, kind soft spoken voice. Phly and I had just spent time together. Sweet memories. She will be missed
