Pilar Schneider Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2021.
Pilar Monroe Schneider 2/19/1928-1/11/2021 Pilar Monroe Schneider -- educator, businesswoman, mother of Stanley Schneider, April Schneider Farley, John Schneider and Robert Schneider and grandmother of eight, Sean Meagher, Crystal Meagher, Elle King, Asia Schneider, Alex Schneider and Asia Schneider, died of natural causes in Pacifica, CA at the age of 91. She was the widow of Pacifica businessman and Realtor Marvin Schneider. Pilar's life was remarkably challenging yet incredibly productive. She was an elementary school teacher in Pacifica for nearly 30 years. Pilar's students would marvel at how decades later she would remember their names. After receiving her master's degree from San Francisco State University, she became a special education teacher. Eventually, Pilar served two terms on the Pacifica School Board where she received more votes in Pacifica than President Bill Clinton. She was also twice elected President of the Board. Pilar and husband Marvin ran a foundation established with their son which brought music education programs back to Pacifica, which ran for 15 years. When Marvin died, Pilar took the reins of the foundation. Thankfully, music is still played in Pacifica schools. As busy as she was, Pilar also had fun appearing in TV commercials and being a frequent presence in her son Rob's feature films, with roles in five of his movies, including "Deuce Bigalow - Male Gigolo," " The Animal," "The Hot Chick," and "Big Stan." Born in the Philippines of an Indonesian mother, Victoria, and an American soldier, Stanley Monroe, Pilar was the youngest of five children. Amid the strife of World War II, her brothers John and Bill were killed by the Japanese military, while Pilar, her two sisters Jean and Rose, and their mother were incarcerated in a Japanese concentration camp. Following the war and upon graduation from the University of Santa Thomas, Pilar traveled to the United States as a U.S. citizen. After some time on the East Coast, she settled in San Francisco where she miraculously was reunited with her father when a piece of mail for her was mistakenly delivered to him. After a brief marriage that produced two children, Pilar carried on as a single mother to son Stanley and daughter April while working as an insurance adjuster. At a parents' meeting to address the dispensation of San Francisco's childcare system, she encountered Marvin Schneider. They fell in love, were married, and would go on to have two sons, John and Rob. Over the past decade, Pilar's spent as much time as she could in her beloved town of Pacifica as well as living with her son and his wife Patty in Los Angeles. Pilar is remembered as a smart, resourceful, determined, kind-hearted woman, a beloved wife, and a proud mother. She is survived by her sister Rose; her sister-in-law Lenice; her children Stanley, April, John, and Rob; her step-daughter Linda; her grandchildren Sean, Crystal, Ashley, Alexandria, Asia, Elle, Miranda, Madeline, Marc, and Amy; and her great-grandchildren Ryder, Willa, Greysen, Finn, Koko, Melina, Sean, Megan, and Mateo. Funeral services will be held this Friday in Colma where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Marvin "Unforgettable" with Pilar "Unforgettable too."

My name is Yolanda and I used to work for Washington Mutual that later became chase and Mrs. Schneider will come to my branch on Gellert. And she was the sweetest lady I've ever met. And as a teller you become acquainted with your customers but when she will come to the branch... she will make sure that we will go to see the Giants! She will manage to secretly pass those tickets, which my husband and I got to enjoy! And I got to talk to her a lot and yes! She told me a few stories about her husband and the pain of loosing him and what I love the most about her.....that she never treated me any less and she will tell me about the movies that her son made that she was in and she was always ready... her hair, her nails and dress. I never forget the last time a saw her maybe in 2013 or 2012. I noticed that she was a little tired and I told her that she should be resting and I remember walking her to the car and while we took that little walk she told me not to tell her son's because she enjoyed to run those little errands for her son Rob and she liked to kept moving and busy. After that I left the bank and I remember that she gave me her daughter's April phone number because I wanted to go for a horse ride in Pacifica but I could never get a hold of her to ask for her and when I hear the sad news of her passing my heart was trouble because I wish to have seen her. And from the bottom of my heart my deepest condolences to the Schneider family. Awesome, Amazing Lady!

We will always remember our Pilar for her sharp and loving personality, smile, humor and beauty. The Schneider family has been instrumental in helping us launch our video business in 1982 and having Rob as our first employee then. We and the City of Pacifica will miss Pilar immensely. Our love and prayers to the entire Schneider ohana; Stan, April, John and Patty and Rob and Sis Linda and their families. Mahalo and Aloha Pilar.
