Seeing this today. I was asked about my favorite teacher of all time. He was the no. 1 person who came to mind. So sorry to hear of your passing, but know you made such an impact on my life. I was a student at Chaparral and had him as my English teacher, then moved across town and went to Bonanza Class 0f '88

Today, October 29, 2023 I am just seeing this. I haven´t lived in LV in over 40 years. Seeing his name immediately brought back memories of a kind and gentle man. One of my most favorite teachers and mentor. I wanted to learn from him. I loved his class and made sure to check in with him regularly just to talk. I think of him as I consider what kind of teacher I want for my grandkids who are in high school now. I am certain you are flying high in heaven. Leslie Caffo CHS class of 1978

I am so sorry to hear the sad news about Quincy. We were good friends and roommates at Xavier University of Louisiana. Because of his great personality, he will be missed by many.

He was a very dear friend of mine for 50 years. We grew up together in Mobile, Ala. He was such an inspiration to me and his wisdom abounded. We attended the same high school (Central) and I followed him to New Orleans to Xavier University. He majored in English and became a teacher and so did I. He had an impeccable penmanship and I emulated his writing skills. I will surely miss him. I even visited him in Las Vegas, He picked me up from the airport and we had a great visit. Sleep in eternal rest. i will see you in the morning. HEARTBROKEN IN NEW YORK

I had Mr. Collins for my freshman year English IH at Chaparral High School. Mr. Collins' gentle nature, extensive knowledge, and passion for the subject were an inspiration to me as his student, and I remembered his lessons and demeanor well over the years as I taught English and various history courses for CCSD. I can't tell you how many times I'd looked at a situation in my classroom and thought, "How would Quincy Collins have solved this?" He will certainly be missed. Thank you for your great lessons, guidance and passion in educating the young people of Southern Nevada. Truly "To Sir, with Love..."

I had Mr. Collins my freshman year of High School at Chaparral. Mr. Collins was so kind and intelligent. I loved going to his class first period, it was a fantastic way to begin the day. He kept the class engaged with his passion for the literature we studied. He treated each of us with respect and truly listened to our insights. May he rest in peace, I am so grateful to have been able to have been his student. Carin-Class of 1990

Quincy was brilliant throughout high school at Central. His writing was impeccable as he navigated through the numerous college prep subjects. I remember him well. You should be proud of his wonderful legacy as a scholar. We were all extremely competitive, graduating in 1969 with honors; Jewel Johnson, Quincy Collins, Sandra Williams, Monica Hall and other wonderful classmates. We all adored Quincy's quiet spirit and his significantly expansive vocabulary. Heaven has gained a great soul! Great memories. Blessings and Honor to Quincy's Memory.

I was so fortunate to know Mr. Collins while I was a student at Chaparral. I was even more blessed to be his colleague while we talk English together at Silverado High School. As a young teacher, his example of gentle kindness and his generous spirit impacted the way I learned to teach, interact with my own students, and help those around me. My prayers for peace to his family; I always knew they were his favorite parts of his life.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Collins passing. He was my freshman English teacher at Silverado and become a great friend. Mr. Collins noticed I was struggling in my first few months of high school, having just moved here from back east and gave me the push I needed to open up. He was a fantastic human being and I have thought of him often in the many years since. I will be keeping his family in my thoughts.

I am so sorry to hear this. Mr. Collins was my English teacher and Journalism teacher at Chaparral High School in 1983/1984 and I still remember him fondly. Not only did he help fuel my love of reading and inspire me to become an author, he also taught me a lot about integrity. He was an amazing teacher with a huge heart and he has definitely left a legacy in the lives of every student he has taught. -Robin (Allen) Corak

Mr. Collins was my high school English and Journalism teacher during my freshman year at Chaparral. I remember his restraint while he tried his hardest to remain calm with us. Our class was definitely more rambunctious than he would have preferred. Nonetheless, he was an amazing spirit and teacher. I had the pleasure of working with Quincy many years later at Silverado. As a co-worker, still so gentle and sweet and the utmost professional in every way.

Mr. Collins taught me English my freshman year at Chaparral. He was one of if not THE kindest teachers I ever had. I remember being upset with my performance on one of his tests once, even though it hadn't been graded yet. I went to him that day at lunch and he graded my test on the spot so that I wouldn't be worrying about it for the next few days while he graded them all. He truly cared about his students and made a positive impact on many of us.

My heart is broken! Mr. Collins was my freshman English teacher at Chaparral. I started every day with him! He made every day enjoyable. He truly cared about us, not just as students, but as people. His door was always open for anything we wanted to talk about...not just his class and not just for the year he was our teacher...but always. To his family, I send my sincere condolences and thanks for sharing him with us. Mr. Collins - Thank you for showing me that just being me was enough, for always being the best teacher, and for being the epitome of Cowboy Pride! May you rest in peace, sir!

One of my all time favorite teachers at Chaparral, he insisted on excellence and made English fun. I TA'd for him as a sophomore in 79, and learned so much from him. His firm but soft spoken guidance was exactly what I needed at the time. RIP Mr. Collins, your legacy lives on through those that you taught.

Oh, Mr. Collins, how I miss you already. You were my inspiration. You were my friend. You were my advisor. You were my mentor. You were my ride to and from school during my freshman and sophomore years. Not many people knew we only lived 2 blocks from each other and I hitched rides from you to and from school during my first 2 years of high school. I could only pay you back by babysitting the kids on weekends. You were my inspiration of being a journalist and was my Journalism advisor my freshman, sophomore and junior years. You taught me English during my sophomore year and how to conjugate the words love and patience. You were my friend, most of all. Rest in peace, my dear Mr. Collins.

I was blessed enough to be a student in Mr. Collins English I Honors class my freshman year at Chaparral. He was my first period teacher and I will never forget his kind and gentle voice and how much I learned from him about English and about life. I remember a few of my classmates and myself would sing Rock Me Quincy Collins to the tune of the song Rock Me Amadeus by Falco. It was such a funny thing and he would just kind of roll his eyes and chuckle at us!! Great memories!!! Mr. Collins, what a total class act!!! You earned respect from everyone you taught! You will be missed by so many and I just want to say thank you for leaving such a wonderful footprint in my education! Much love sir!!

Mr. Collins was my sophomore English teacher. He was the most influential teacher during my high school years. I'm Class of 79. He knew I wasn't giving my best, so he challenged me to live up to my full potential. I was a big fan of the funk groups of the 70's; Parliament , Funkadelic, and Bootsy Collins. I used to affectionately call him Bootsy. Of course he knew I was respectfully kidding and he corrected me in with his soft yet firm voice. My parents knew I had wonderful teacher in Mr. Collins. They enjoyed speaking with him during open house. I think his is the only class that I didn't act out in. I respected him tremendously.
I'm praying for the comfort of the family during this difficult time.
