Rachel Gray-Gallant

We announce the passing of Rachel Gray-Gallant, who departed this life on June 6, 2025. Rachel was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, wife and dedicated educator whose presence touched the lives of many in the Madison and Milwaukee community.

Rachel's passion for life was expressed through her love of cooking, baking, reading, writing poetry, and listening to the blues. Her most profound joy, however, came from teaching. Over the years, she inspired countless students through her work at King, Marshall, and various Chapter schools across Milwaukee. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to education left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of learning from her.

She leaves behind her loving daughter Melody (Darrin) Carter, cherished grandson Jaylen Carter, devoted brother Willie Earl Sr. (Ellen) Gray, and his children Kesha Gray-Pommier and Willie Earl Gray Jr. She is also survived by her half-sister Queen Harris and Queen's children, as well as her stepsons Marshall Gallant Jr. and Greg Gallant. Rachel's legacy of love and generosity also lives on in a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former students, and extended family.

Rachel will be remembered for her strength, her heart, and the way she lifted others through her kindness and knowledge. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
