RAE ALEXANDER JOHN McDONALD
Rae passed away peacefully Sunday, July 30, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born January 11, 1934, the eldest of five boys, to Jim and Thelma McDonald in Wapella, SK. In 1950, he moved to Kitchener, ON to live with his aunt and uncle. In 1953, he joined the RCAF, living in Borden, ON; Trenton, ON; MacDonald, MB; Moose Jaw, SK; Zweibrücken, Germany; Portage la Prairie, MB; Cold Lake, AB; Winnipeg, MB; and retiring to Regina, SK. Rae will be remembered as a handy man who could take anything apart and put it back together, always willing to offer advice and a hand to those who looked for it. He was loved and respected by his family, friends, neighbours and co-workers. As a family growing up, we spent many summers camping and fishing, touring parts of Canada, connecting with family and visiting a number of European countries while stationed in Germany. Family history, keeping fit and active, and visits at coffee were his retirement hobbies. Rae will be missed by his loving wife, Norma, and his daughters, Shelley (Cam), Lynn (Scott) and Debra. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Craig, Marty (Kaitlyn), Lyndsey (Gordon), and Alex (Stephanie), and great-granddaughters, Madeleine and Halle. Rae is also survived by nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Thelma, and his brothers, Sandy, Ross, George and Ralph. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3.
