Sacramento, California - Rafael "Rafa" León was born on January 26, 1952 in a small farm town in the Sierra Madre: Canelas, Durango, Mexico. He passed away, unexpectedly, in his Sacramento home on February 26th, 2022.
Rafa emigrated to the United States in the early seventies. With Rafa's strong work ethic, it did not take long for him to find a rewarding profession as a concrete laborer within the Northern California Laborers Local 185 (LiUNA 185). For almost 30 years, he helped build many of the skyscrapers and commercial buildings you see now as prominent structures in the Sacramento skyline.
After decades of hard work and dedication to his faith, family and craft, Rafa was able to spend his last twenty years on this earth in retirement, enjoying the fruits of his labor. He took great pleasure in his newfound ability to do whatever it is he wanted to do. It was a freedom he openly cherished.
Rafa will be sorely missed by his children, his siblings, large family and many close friends. He will be laid to rest alongside other León family members at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. All services will be held at St. Mary Cemetery and Funeral Center on April 1st and April 2nd.
