Ralph Francis Pol, age 85 of Atwater, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born October 16, 1924, in Atwater, a son of the late Samuel and Blanche (Keller) Pol. Ralph was a self-employed carpenter all of his life. He was a member of the Atwater Fire Department and the Atwater Historical Society. Mr. Pol was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in WWII.
Ralph was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing his guitar. Countless hours were spent building Pol's Acres Campground, a legacy he leaves to all his family and friends.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years June Pol; children: Claudia (Ron) Knapp, Jennifer (Chuck) Garey, Wade (Chris) Pol, Brent (Kim) Pol; sister: Helen (Melvin) Roosa; brothers: Jerry (Marilyn) Pol, Terry (Alice) Pol, Glen Pol; also survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and longtime family friend Mary Tennant.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Lester and Dave Pol, and his sister Mary Shriver.
Friends will be received Sunday, February 7, 2010, from 1-3 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Friends may also call one hour prior to the 11:00 AM funeral service officiated by Pastor C. William Nicewarner on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Atwater Cemetery with military honors.
