Oh Grandma, I can´t believe I spent my whole life looking for you, looking for Dad, and I found you just after you went to heaven. I have no doubt you are a saint and Angel with God now and I pray every day and say the prayers that I think you would want me to say. I´ll always be so proud to be your granddaughter and Abel´s only daughter.

I promise this is my last post! But I wanted to include Mom's Funeral Pallbearers on her Obituary! 8 of her Grandsons performed the function, all wearing a Butterfly on their heart, in her honor. The 7 in the photo, left to right, are Corey & Evan Cantu, Michael Tapia, Richard & Roy Cardenas, Lester Taylor, and Bo Tapia. The 8th one is not in the picture, Sammy Wong. He was being notified with the terrible news that his Mother, Sylvia Wong, had just passed away in the hospital from COVID-19! It was devastating news for the whole family, on the day of her Mother's funeral! She had been in the hospital for about 2 weeks already, fighting it. Mostly everyone was wearing a face mask because of COVID protocol.

Mom's funeral service was held on Aug. 16, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough, and she was buried at Sunset Memorial Park on Austin Hwy.

I LOVE YOU! Mom! And miss you so much! Mother's Day is coming up again in 2 weeks, and I will do my best to visit you on that Sunday, even though my health is not so good these days.

To all my nephews, thank you for being there, and honoring your Grandmother! She loved you all!

I wanted to introduce my Mom's Parents, my Grandparents! First photo took place in Primera, Tx, just outside of Harlingen. My brother, Roy, and I took Mom down to the Rio Grande Valley to celebrate Mother's Day with her Mother and Sisters! It was May of 1983. Dolores Ysaguirre Pinon was born on Mar. 12, 1904, in San Carlos, Mexico, to her parents, Eufrasio & Ramona Perez Ysaguirre. She had 1 brother, Anastacio Ysaguirre, and 3 sisters, Guadalupe Y. Aguirre, Micaela Y. Vasquez, and Refugia P. Ysaguirre. During the Mexican Revolution of 1910-1920, (Pancho Villa & Emiliano Zapata!), the Family migrated to the U.S., San Benito, Tx., and started a new life. There was an enormous migration to the U.S. during the War.

My Mom, Ramona Gonzales Vega, was born Dec. 23, 1928, in San Benito, and moved her Family to San Antonio, Tx., in the Summer of 1963. In the center, is Mom's 6th Daughter, my sister, Cynthia Gomez Young, who was raised by her Grandma in Primera.

The 2nd photo is my Mom with her Father, Pedro G. Gonzalez of Harlingen, Tx. He came to visit her for Xmas in San Antonio, at her Nimitz Apt. in the early 1980s. Pedro was born on June 27, 1905, in Camargo, Mexico. He had 1 brother, Victorio Gonzalez, and 1 sister, Merced Gonzalez Ysaguirre, who married Dolores' brother, Anastacio! They also migrated to the U.S. in 1911. That concludes our 'Roots' History lesson for today!

Just thought I should post a couple of pictures of Mom's children as grown-ups! She had 6 Daughters and 4 Sons. She was a Single Mom, so there was never a Father in the family since I was born.

The first photo has my Mom, Ramona Gonzales Vega, with 5 of her Daughters, on XMAS, 1993, at my sister Mona's house, in San Antonio. The second photo is of the girls only. Her 6th Daughter lives in Harlingen, Cynthia Gomez Young, and was not there for this XMAS.

From left to right, my oldest sister, Lydia Sifuentes (Deceased-2020), Sylvia Wong (Deceased-2021), Mona De La Rosa Cantu, the youngest, Elvida 'Dee' Taylor, and finally, Belinda Gomez Tapia, at the end.

They were all born in Harlingen, Tx, but raised in San Antonio since 1963, except my youngest sister, Mona, who was born in San Antonio.

Just thought I should post a couple of pictures of Mom's children as grown-ups! She had 6 Daughters and 4 Sons. She was a Single Mom, so there was never a Father in the family since I was born.

This was my 21st Birthday Party that I threw on Dec. 16, 1976, while I was still a member of the U.S. ARMY, stationed in Ft. Hood, Killeen, Tx! We had it at my Mom's Nimitz Apt. on Blanco Rd. She wasn't there, of course! Just us and my brother Roy's friends.

First is Abel B. Vega, my oldest brother (26 yrs. old) (Deceased-1991), then Gilbert 'Gordon' Vega (22 yrs. old) (Deceased-1993), third is me, Daniel Vega (21 yrs. old), and last is our half-brother, Roy Cardenas (18 yrs. old). This is the only picture I have with all 4 of us together. We were all born in Harlingen, Tx, but raised in San Antonio since 1963.

Thank you, Mom, for all your sacrifices and hard work for so many years, raising 9 children all on your own as a single Mom. (1 raised in Harlingen by Grandparents.) You stuck with us through thick & thin, the good, the bad and the ugly! You never once thought about leaving us. As we all grew older, and things got better, you were always there for all of us expressing so much Love to your family and all your grandchildren, there's nothing you wouldn't do to help any of us. I could always count on you to help me out when times were tough. You always did the best you could, and for that, we will always love you dearly!

Now you can join your eldest daughter, Lydia, and her son, Little Freddie Gonzales, and your 2 other sons, Abel & Gilbert Vega, wherever they may be. Rest in Peace, Mom. I love you so much! Goodbye for now.

P.S. Mom loved butterflies and had a collection of them on her walls at home.
